Just got me a 99 husaberg fc400 and it has no spark,is this a common problem and how powerful are they. Thanks gary

do a search on sem ignition and see what you think. read the owner's doc at the left.
how powerful are they
more powerful than a locomotive :bounce3:

Thanks ned.My buddy has a 99 yamaha yz400f that I have rode a few time's and it is very powerful, almost too much.Thats why I asked the question.

Your buddy's YZ400F ((I once owned one) will have more power than your FC400. Your FC400 will be easier to start than a YZ400F once you get the ignition fixed.

One potential problem with the earlier Husabergs was teh plastic ignition cover not sealing well and water getting in and corroding the ignition up. I used to periodically seal the one on my '96 FE501 with silicone to make sure water stayed out. Aside from that, the SEM ignitions didn't seem to be as reliable as the Japanese ones. However, before you go spending money on a new ignition you need to check for corrosion on the coils/flywheel and also check to see that it is well grounded because a loose ground will result in no spark. If I remember right, the ignition ground wire connects to the frame under the tank, near the igntion coil. The ground on the FE models plugged into a terminal on the voltage regulator but I doubt your FC has one. I've had the bolt that holds the voltage regulator on the FE models come loose and not have any spark.

Thanks for the info,Ill check it out better tommarow. The spark plug is not in the head so I had to order 2 online

I got the bike to run and it is hard to start.Once it is running it runs fair.I filled the tank with shell v power,Is that ok or do I need to add octane booster and do I run like 20w50 castrol gtx oil or what.I have never worked on a that brand carb.I have a 38mm mikuni tm flat slide carb.could I dial it in so it will be easy rrr to start. Thanks guys for a great place to talk about these very nice bikes.Where can a person find parts for a 99,all the places that sell parts start at 2004 and up.

Premium pump gas is fine. I would stick with the Del Orto at least until you get it running right. I know Ned37 has run Mikuni's before.
Try BOSS for your parts. Dan at Motoexotica may still have some old Berg parts as well.

After several years of playing around with jetting with the stock DellOrto oval bored carb on my '96 FE600e, I switched to a flat slide Mikuni. The engine ran much better with the Mikuni carb and was much easier to jet properly.

ditto.
the flatslide mik (pretty well worn out) i had on my '98 400 ran a 240 main, and a 15 pilot jet.
