Your buddy's YZ400F ((I once owned one) will have more power than your FC400. Your FC400 will be easier to start than a YZ400F once you get the ignition fixed.
One potential problem with the earlier Husabergs was teh plastic ignition cover not sealing well and water getting in and corroding the ignition up. I used to periodically seal the one on my '96 FE501 with silicone to make sure water stayed out. Aside from that, the SEM ignitions didn't seem to be as reliable as the Japanese ones. However, before you go spending money on a new ignition you need to check for corrosion on the coils/flywheel and also check to see that it is well grounded because a loose ground will result in no spark. If I remember right, the ignition ground wire connects to the frame under the tank, near the igntion coil. The ground on the FE models plugged into a terminal on the voltage regulator but I doubt your FC has one. I've had the bolt that holds the voltage regulator on the FE models come loose and not have any spark.
