Having just picked up and ridden my '95 FE501 the other day I'd say do what you need to do and get it sorted and enjoy it without regard to what it'll be worth down the line.

You'll enjoy many great days riding the thing and for a lot less then a new scoot besides.

I would have no problem either getting or sorting a nice older Berg and having a decent level of faith in it's reliability and most of all it's fun factor.

:D i have an old 501 and don't mind spending my cash on it,i have never had a bike quite like it, they are raw and unrefined ,designed for the max ,thats why i love it.

how do you put a price on fun :D

Hi Everyone....

Over the weekend I switched out the Carbs...Couple of kicks and she fired right up...couple laps around the block and all seemed good...Now we gotta see the oil after 10 or so hours...or should I check it sooner...If the bearing casing is starting to go how many hours do I have left?

hy

i also bought last summer a fe 400 from 99 and a valve broked down and i bought a lot of new parts for it: valves, timing chain, bearings for camshaft, all seals, also the seals for for water pomp, rockerarm roller, piston, and some small ones, have the cylinder head redone with sits and 2 new valve quides, now i`m waiting for a a new connecting rod with new rod bearing. Because like you all said in the previos posts that is more cheaper to do it myself and i fond this problem latter:D:D.. but this things happend , I`m learing on the way:D:D . this site helped me a lot with all the docs and some of your opinion . it is bad because there are not from older years docs,i did not found ..

the crankshaft bearings are looking to be fine, also the seals .The gear box i didn`t take it apart , it stand`s on a half of crankcase but also looks fine
i put allready around 650 euros and I will find out how much it will be the connecting rod and the other , but i hope it will be a fun bike to ride for me for the next 2 years hopefully....
with the parts are some problem because in Romania we have only 1 husaberg dealer and he is at beginnings because everybody are buying ktms yamahas suzuki, and the parts come in 1 month or so.

regards to all!
i will post more to tell you how i`m doing with the berg

Glad to see things are heading in the right direction and for a lot less money then you originally thought.
I'd change the oil every 2 hrs of riding time.10 hrs seems like a lot between oil changes.

Update....

Took the girl out to Cal-City for my first real ride this weekend. The new carb worked perfect as did the whole bike...I had a great time on this machine...I was taking woops at 35-40mph that the DR650 would only handle at 5-10...This bike is a Blast...I'll gladly spend some extra money on this motor if I have to. IT REALLY NEEDS A BIGGER TANK... I know "BOSS" has something for the newer models...How about the later ones...Anything out there???

Thanks for the advice
