whats the problem?? do you get upset that your new car doesn't come with a crank starter handle???

Yes!!! I am pissed that new cars (at least ones that go off road) don't come with a crank start handle. I've cranked my Land Rover many a times due to bad battery, starter etc. One time it saved me on the trail when no one else was around & there was no other easy way of getting it going. Also great for turning the engine over slowly for valve adjustments. Other times I've used it at the shopping mall just to watch people's reactions :)

I've been hearing issues with guys killing their batteries on estart only xcf KTMs. This happens in super tight riding areas with a lot of restarts. THese bikes have a 30W generator. At this point, a starter failure is as likely an engine/clutch...name the component failure.

I hadn't even given the e start only a thought a consideration, until this thread..and I still don't. I with Powercell, now worries mates

If the EFI performs properly we should have no problems, but we all like the added insurance of the kickstart, a little peace of mind goes a long way!

yeah batteries do run dry, ....my bet is that a kick starter will be added in 2010.

I love the look of the 09 Husaberg but wish it had a kickstart too. It's not so bad for the first few years, but would you want to buy an older secondhand bike without a kicker? Any problems I've had with mine starting have not been mechanical they've all been electrical (switches) and I simply would prefer to have it there as back up. I would bet that as the new model gets older people who don't look after them properly will have problems and it will affect Husabergs reputation. I've seen brand new Aprilia's fail to start before an event, and no matter how trick it looked everyone who saw that fail to start will have remembered that.

exactly......................................jeezzus what a bunch of dinosaurs

I havent kicked any of my KTM's or Bergs since my first e-start 2000 model RFS 520 EXC and thats now 9 bikes ago

If your berg is a race bike. Then no problem if it doesn't have a kick starter.

For trail and backcountry guys this is an big issue. Given Bergs history with E-starters and small batteries it's a big issue.

I've started looking ahead to buying a new dirt bike. The KTM 530 EXC, XC-w and 300 XC-W are strong contenders. Also I've been looking at the new 500 cc class of bergs. I would really like to get another berg. But with out a kick starter I'm not sure if I want to risk it.

If you think any different just search the number of theads on this forum connected to riders who have or are having problems with their E-staters.

one of the bits of information that could help make a decision is to know how the starting will work. Some EFI systems will not work off a kick start. Some systems will as they have arranged for the power from the kickstarter to be sufficeint to do something that makes the EFI work. I am not saying that is better as the berg engine management system may require extra power the kick and that storage of power system can not match. That engine management system may be a key to better perfomance?

Even though a prototype was seen with a kick start it does not mean the final choice would work with a kick start.

Does anyone know a lot about the different approaches to EFI and what power they need to work and how they can be given that power apart from a battery. Will the 09 bergs have a diffent type of battery. There was talk that the batteries may use a mobile phone (cell phone) battery technology??

Does anyone know how the berg starting system will work???

Don't worry about the lack of a kick start, I have had ATVs that were e-start only with no back system, and have never been let down, even after many stop and go days.

just remember husabergs have always been like blonde women.... when they are good they are really good, and when they are bad they are really bad... LOL I suppose the only difference is that when husabergs are good they don't cost much??????????

Only they should do what

The only time my bike wouldn't start with the button was when it was -20°c
I wonder how FI would fair in the same temps?

I'm thinking it would start right up.

Why In hell would you like to ride at -20, just kidding I had been in nova Scotia, I am sure you have to be brave to ride on those conditions
