i recently bought an FS650e and after 24 hours the battery was dead. so after kick starting it for a week and tearing up my shins i went out yesterday and bought a brand new battery. it worked fine for the day but by the next day it was dead also!! the strange thing is that after kick starting it and driving it around, the battery is recharged and the bike will start with the electric start with no problem. but again, by the next day the battery is drained again and there is not enought juice to turn over the engine even once!! what is causing this problem!!

What charger do you use? Did you fully charge the battery before the first use? Are you sure you do not have a drain?

Hi franknorway,

It would seem that your battery is not charing at all the only thing the battery is used for is the starter and the horn, so if you fully charge the battery and don't use the starter it will appear always charged but when you use the starter you start to discharge the battery.
Fully charge the battery run up the engine and while running take a voltage reading across the battery should be around 13.8 to 14.4vdc.
If no charge regulator rectifier or bad connection some where.
Let us now your findings.

Regards

Sparks.

Thanks for the advice. i will do this first thing tomorrow and get back to you with the results.

i walked into a shop and they handed me a battery off the shelf. it was the correct battery-YTZ 7S-but, like i said, after the first day it was dead. But, last night i charged the battery and so far it seems to be holding the charge. The motorcyle started repeatedly today so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that it was just a simple problem of needing charged becuase my shins can't take any more abuse of kick starting.

Franknorway, did you do a voltage test acroos the battery while the engine was running to make sure it is charging at the correct voltage?.

Regards
Sparks.

I did the voltage check today with the engine running--it was 14.4. but when the engine was cold it was 12.9 i will do it again tomorrow to re-check these numbers. but the good news is that after charging the battery on monday the motorcycle has started everytime since then. still, i don't want to get my hopes up so fast becuase it's only been 24 hours so far. However, so far, everything has been good!

Thanks very much for all the help and advice. i really appreciate it!!!
