Hi Radar,

The new oil is being contaminated with carbon particals that adhere to the engines internals, requires more frequent oil changes but not every week.

Regards

Sparks.

RE: Re: my oil is turning blackish

that is good news... thought for sure there was something bad wrong with the internals... will it clear up after some time and oil changes???????

Re: RE: Re: my oil is turning blackish

It also depends on how well the carb is jetted if to over rich then the blow by this the burnt and unburnt gas that passes past the piston rings into the bottom end, this can accaelerate oil contamination.

Sparks

carb still has the stock jetting..... but never contaminated the oil before it got upside down.... by the way its an 05 450 fe...

look ... no major concerns here , it's all good if it turns blackish .

major concerns when it turns white-ish .

Isn't it supposed to turn black as it starts containing more carbon? It could be old oil from previous changes.

fresh oil in it... soon as i started her it went from new looking to the way i imagine the oil looks like in my lawn mower(which has never been changed)... stole 3 gallons of oil from work( used in our Cat front-end Loaders).. gonna keep changing it until i get all that junk outta her... atleast it wont cost me anything but some time... it turning black after 30 seconds is bothering me... must rectify...

Radar,
Man, you worry too much. My first 3 Bergs had that issue. I could run them around the block and the oil would look dark in the sight glass. When you actually drain it out and look at it, it doesnt really look that bad. My 06 has been the best so far as keeping the oil clean. I have no explanation for it. I have an 05 Husky that will go 8-9 months or about 5-600 miles of riding and the oil looks new coming out of it. Go figure.

As far as the diesel oil goes, some of the newer oils have friction modifiers in them that may not be that compatable with wet clutchs. Just something to think about. I have run Delo before and had good luck. Lately I just run motorcycle specifc synthetics.

was only gonna run it a couple of minutes at a time , then drain , and do over until it cleared up...my luck can only be considered a "Tragedy" when it comes to all things mechanical... i guess thats why i worry.. but if you guys think its fine then i will stick to my normal schedule... ride the hell outta it and change the oil after every ride..
the weird thing is that ever since my flip-submarine-style-move , the damn thing is running better than ever..
feels 10% stronger on the bottom-end , and kick-starts so easy i dont know what to think... go figure...
