MAIN BEARINGS FAILURE, MUST CHANGE

brisberg, what Motul oil is it your are using ?

I have been told by a Dutch Rallye team that races Bergs to only use the Motul 300V and they have had no main bearing failures in 3 years of rallye racing !

Its 100% synthetic though. What do yuo think ?

gazza,

I think the motul is the go not sure why it works better that the others the make up of the oil must suit roller bearings the transfer case we had made in the US the guys told us only to us torco synthetic to get the life out of the bearings but we do run motul 300v in it no problems but even they had had problems with bearings on synthetic.

I run it in mine and my other bikes but i only have them 2 years then i get a new one but i am the engine builder at work and the camshaft and general engine ware has improved on the race cars on the motul we only run the engines for 1500 km at a time so you get to see how they are going its the best oil we have used so far thats for sure on one of our engines we were getting 2500km out of the cam and lifters no we are up two 10000 km on the same one and its like new we did try an additive that torco makes that worked really well but cost wise it was far cheaper to go to motul plus we now have a deal with motul.

I would be interested to know what the guys who have had problems run for an oil.

Hello ORANGEBERG,

I look at your comments, and I found several options for the bearing, what is the correct one to use?
NTN NJ206 (you mention) or SKF NJ2206 ECP or SKF NJ2206 ECJ?

Tks,

I understand the factory has gone from ball to roller..... the factories usually know best - whether good enough or not- and it may be the ball bearing causes some other problem. This main bearing issue seems to be a disaster. When the bikes leave the show room was the float checked? One of the threads said that ktm has the same problem what happens there?

I put a ball bearing on th left side and stock roller on the right side of both my race bikes and they are both holding up real well with no problems.

Just had mine go on my fs 450 with 29 hours/1807 km quite disappointing really as we only get a 3 month warrantee here in good old South Africa ,I gave her a new filter and oil every 10hours and only did one track day the rest was commuting so this bike has actually had an easy life compared to most.

'' quite disappointing '' is a massive understatement .

If I managed 5000km with this bike before a rebuild I would of being quite happy, this makes me scared of keeping the bike for the future as we have more track days coming up. I will be reusing the piston and sleeve though as it's scored but about the same as you would find in your average MX bike which has run with a dirty airfilter if I can put it like that.

dont quiet understand that Whosa you said you spent alot on your berg even before the rebuild??

you are correct ...

how does a whopping $ 2400.00 ...yep you read right $ 2400.00 on a AKRAPOVIC ti system

05 wheels , suspension , graphics , thermo kit , count less oil changes , count less w/p seal & bearing & seal in an effort to stop the dreaded weep hole blues .

cam chains , 05 tensioner , had the rock hard seat recovered and so on ........
