Longtime Member Ken Waun aka berger died

Ken died Saturday 11/14 at home. He had been quite sick for many months in and out of the hospital. We had kept in pretty good touch over the years and I would see him about once a year on my annual pilgrimage to Baja Mexico. He called me July 15 and told me he was dying and asked if I would buy his 2010 FX450. I was in the truck the next day and made the 7 hour drive from Moab Utah to Phoenix AZ. We had a nice visit. It was pretty surreal to see him so weak with tubes coming out of him. He gave me tons of stuff including the 2001 501 he bought from LeFrog. It was hard to say goodbye. He fought and hung on for 4 more months. He was having 7-8 liters of fluid drained from his abdomen every week that was leaking out of his intestines. I would check in with him over the next 4 months quite frequently sometimes not hearing back for days because he was so sick. I will never forget his amazing positive attitude through it all. He was a great friend and a TRUE Husaberg enthusiast.

Ken and I used to keep in touch twice a year and I'd ask him to take an American parcel and ship it over privately to avoid high post costs and he always helped me.

Last time he was on here two years ago we were going to get another Moab together and then he went quiet.

I wonder if a lifetime in the paint booth didn't cause the damage?

Most won't know that this web site was founded and run until some 5 years ago by 'schwimm'. But Schwimm didn't have a Husaberg of his own! So at our first Husaberg Force Ride in 2005 Ken asked if we'd all put in a little and he'd give Schwimm his FX470e.
Ken was the one who put it together and unfortunately he only got half the money he was aiming at to cover himself.

He was always on here helping guys and he was never the 'big I am'. a genuine guy, humble and a true berg man. I believe he was the cheif instigator of the second Force Ride (again at Moab), I think the other ken gets credit along with Ken Huan for equally doing the first rally.

Miss you Ken.....

i stopped and visited with ken at his shop a couple years ago when i did a rare visit to phoenix. he told me his cancer was back and didn't look good. his attitude was typical ken: mellow and realistic.
met him in '05 while riding at the old pima and dynamite riding area. i had to check out the immaculate berg in the back of a pickup, since we were the only bergs there. we remained friends ever since.
one of the smartest and unselfish people i ever met.
i'll miss you kenny. godspeed

Ken was one of the earlier members of this site and a prolific contributor during that time period. An Auto Mechanic by trade. I got to meet Ken in person at Force Ride 1 where is was riding an Fe 650. I got to participate in gifting his 01 470 to the site founder "Schwimm" at the ride and he never complained that only half the money was raised but he gifted his bike anyway without a second thought. Those seemed like magical times and they were. Ken was about as hardcore a Husaberg enthusiast as one could be. Extremely generous and very humble. He will be sadly missed.

This puts a pit in my stomach. Thank you for sharing Colby, I’m sure not easy, but we’re all grateful you did. I don’t make it here much any more but I am glad I spent the time to do so in the past. Those Moab rides were great and Ken was a guy who certainly kept up with his friends. Hope you all are well and happy, and enjoying your Husabergs still.

On this day in 2005, I received the bike in the mail that Ken made happen. I really miss him.

I haven't been on here in years. So sorry to hear of Ken "Berger" passing. One of those rare individuals that make riding dirt bikes worth while. Always quick to help with sound advice. I feel so lucky to have met in person in Moab for a Force Ride. He had the greatest fire pit, an old washing machine tub. The holes fed air to the fire in such a way that smoke went up and not out into your eyes. The metal heated up and gave a great radiant heat. I stole that idea and made my own that I used over the summers at wrestling camps in the mountains, it was legendary. Hope all you fellas are well, those were great days riding in Moab. Cheeseberger, my brother wants to know if you're getting any good Elk burgers????
