Does anyone know where I could get a second hand "sprag clutch" mechanism for my Berg? FE 501/02 model.
This item spins from the starter motor, and then engages the fly wheel and starts the bike. Except mine only works when the bike is hot?
Please help.
Thanks.

Hi,

it´s the same procedure mine starter mechanism behaves.
It only works when the engine is hot. I´m also searching
for a 2003 one. Maybe I´ll ask my dealer what it costs new.

good luck and best regards

Hmmmmm................

The Unofficial Husaberg Wrecking Yard. Has a nice ring to it....................

I have the same problem with the sprag clutch on my 2002 FE650e. I run Mobil 1 and was wondering if a different oil might correct the problem.

I cannot wait to get home to test my theory. :thumb:

I would try experimenting with the oil first. Try running a good petrolium based oil like Delo. The synthetic is good for the motor but not so good for the sprag operation.
The sprag is not that exspensive. There is no way I would even consider using a used one.

sprag

$49?? Where did you get it?? Its $135 in Tassie, and thats JUST the "sprag" bit not the inner or outer, which Im reliably informed by Dale L that all of it needs to be replaced not just the "cheap" bit.
I think that using different oil is an absolute load of crap! I tried Shell VSX4 and it made no difference at all, and infact I thought it was worse than before and definately noisier.
This problem didnt worry we to much until today, as I talked to a bloke at an Enduro cross that had his sprag clutch **** itself on his KTM 400 EXC and cost him a fortune to fix. So now I'm a little bit more concerned.
I would guess that the inner & outer would be somewhere around the $400 Aust?
I hate spending money.

Hi Scully,

me too. I also hate spending money.
So, in most cases I try to get by with used spare parts.
I´ll ask my dealer what it would cost for me.

best regards

Dudes, look on the left side of your bike.
Ever wondered what that aluminum lever does?
U can actually turn that weird thing, so that the horizontal part of it points 90 Degree away from ure bike!!!
Now, lift ure foot onto that horizontal part, and try to push it down!
When done with some power, this thing does the same thing as ure E-Starter 8O

Hope i could help

just an envious kicker-driver

clutch

The inner is $145 Aust, outer $165 and the s/clutch is $140, not cheap!
And Nezbert, we have electric re-starter bikes, why should we kick em except when they are cold????????????

Hey Nezbert,

yes that´s funny, but my e- or better called re-starter drives me crazy.
So sometimes it can happen that the fun turned deadly earnest.
If you have a button at your handlebar, this lousy thing should kindly work in a reliable way.
Don´t be sad  What would life be worth without laughing from time to time? :p

A response from a buddy regarding a funny post in here a while back about hard starting:

"I was just up in Sweded about 20km from the Husaberg factory....its strange, everyone in Sweden has a left leg about 3.2 times bigger than their right leg....I assume its from trying to kick start their swedish piece of **** bikes into life! Hmmmm....I also noticed that they seem to have a severe drinking problem in Sweden....this could also be attributed to Husaberg!

Luke, get your hands on a trusty Gas Gas (electric start) ASAP!"

He is in charge of 4-stroke development at Gas Gas, none-the-less.

Hey, I personnally don't mind kicking mine, nor running in clockwise circles.

Parsko,
Have you got the part numbers that you were quoted on?
Give me the numbers and i will see what i can do for you.

Parsko,

Re "Have you got the part numbers that you were quoted on?

My mistake, sorry. The offer was meant to be directed at Scully in reference to the starter parts.

starter parts

Thanks Bahnsy for the offer, but after waiting all this time I rang Bendigo Dirts Bikes, and surprise surprise they ARE in stock?????? 13 to be exact, so I got one off them and it was cheaper and my bike is now fixed! Yippy!
I cant thank them enough, and it was in my letter box within 24 hours! It was good to talk to a dealer that actually new what they were on about and KEEN to help! So all you Vic's give them a go.
