so my wife asks me to go to the station and get a few things, i grab a backpack and the berg, take a couple warm up laps around the house and take the long way through the field and out to the road and ride the 2 miles pavement to the station, i pull into the parking lot, put into neutral and coasted into stall, killed the engine and put the stand down just before stopping and as it stopped i put down my left foot, i leaned off and dropped the berg on its left side! i stepped back and picked it up in complete embarrassment, go to put the stand down and see it laying on the ground with spring attached, lol had to lean it against the ice machine when i went in, i wasnt quite as flustered when i saw the mechanical failure i could blame, the only guy around was filling his truck with gas and had two yamaha mx's strapped in the back, im not sure if he saw the drop or not but i left a knobby tire track behind on the seal coated black top when i left anyway to make myself feel better about the situation

i think i remember reading something in the doc about beefing up the stand but was confused by what it said to do, i guess i know now!

 i once did the same thing on a CCM 644. Pulled over into a field to have a pee, as i leant off the bike it took me by surprise an knocked me over, but it was like in slow motion! Nearly peed in me pants laughin about it. Had a good look round and found there were no witnesses.

LMAO, I've had petrol station embarrassment too....

My stand had completely disappeared (rattled off while out & about), so obliviously, I smoothly swooped into the garage in all the Supermoto gear, Iridium goggles, black & red race leathers, Sidi supermoto boots etc... looking really cool (well, in my head at least), then got to the fuel pump & looked down for the side stand..... "errrr Hello?!"

Had to move backwards & forwards in a sort of doggy paddle motion with my legs, staying sat on the bike so I could reach the pump, filled up & then nearly lost my balance reaching for the petrol cap I had cleverly placed on the fuel pump.

Finally got off, pushed it out the way & lent it on the wall, then swaggered with an apparent lack of confidence in to the garage to pay.

The garage attendant & all the other folks in there was smirking... & if it hadn't of been me with the mishap, so would I...LOL

Different problem, me.
A couple of days after getting my Berg, I went to move it around the garage. So I pick it up off the sidestand and BAM.... some ******* just kicked me in the shin with a sharp piece of steel (dirty gash and a swollen bone).
"Damn" I thinks to myself, must warn others of the dangers of the "swedish kickback".

A few days latter I am telling one of my riding buddies about my painful experiance and sod me if he dont walk over to me Berg and pick it up off the sidestand to see what I was talking about.... BAM. Berg 2, people 0. I could tell he didn't own the bike tho, coz the girl dropped my bike and hugged his leg.

A bit latter when we had both settled down we compared wounds...... both identical..... the mark of the BERG.

There must be others in the world with the "mark"..... surely?

I feel your pain brother!

My scar, from "Swedish kick-back"....

Maybe we should set up a self help group for those that have been mentally & physically scarred by the beast?

A Crime Against Humanity!

97? year model (it's when they still had the sense to have the drop tank), so we are looking at a sidestand that had only lasted 14 years....

Seriously, it does suck when a stand carks it, when it's happened to me, it's been in front of a very appreciative audience.

But you might have a record in how long that one lasted. Weld her back up, with a nice little reinforcement, (Tubing cut in 1/2, length wise, welded onto the clevis section, and the 1/2 tube then welded along each 'length' - no weld across the tube towards the stand end to weaken the stand) and who knows, you might get another 14 years out of it.

The embarrassment of having a kick starter go up your trouser leg, when on a run to the local, large town, and stopping at the main intersection on a busy shopping day, then toppling over because your leg is stuck (happens that quick, and you're automatically leaning the tall dirt bike to that side to reach the ground, so throwing out the other leg just adds to the 'comedy'), is something I could have done without in my 20s.

:D would of loved to have seen that kick start up trouser leg scene!!

Crispin, i remember seeing your gory leg in that post, and have just had the pleasure of lookin at it again.. just before me tea. Dont feel very hungry now :|

Did you manage to source a lithium battery? Im after one myself

Jeans on the outside of the mx boots.
Stop at the traffic lights, foot out... hem of jeans catch on footpeg.
Handlebars reached the ground befor my foot.
I heard about that for quiet awhile after........

Hey up spinney balls, did get the lithium battery. I thought I may have a problem with it, or the alternator, but turns out there is a problem with my lights that is drawing loads of current if they are switched on when trying to start it.

Now I keep em switched off, it fires up off the e-start within seconds, it's mega strong & light weight, I'd highly recommend them for e-starting Husabergs. (oh, & p.s. pulsed discharge when cranking is 240 Amps!!!)

Loose bootlaces can do that too, so i'm told...

I remember way back in the dim dark past on a winter trip to the big smoke on my then new GPZ1100B2. I was so cold, that when I pulled up at the servo I could do nothing. My shoulder smashing the glass in the bowser pulled me and my shiny steed up and saved me from a total disaster. Not seen by too many, maybe no one, including from inside the servo because all the windows were fogged up, and the bowser still worked, and I think I got away with it  I'm cold just thinking about it.

Weld it up and good to go for years to come. Biggest problem I had with my 98 501 was the tabs on the frame which I beefed up a bit.

Crispin, where did you get it from?

Im gettin a price off an american site that will ship here, just waitin to hear from him. Seen one on a uk site but its 130 gold coins, which seems a bit harsh - thats for the big cca same as thine.

Hi buddy, here is the link; http://www.super-b.com/

Go to "Dealer" header, then the UK outlets are at bottom of the list.

They are pricey though, but... they are extremely strong. I'd get one of the current ones if you can (I got a cheap deal with the older versions that have cables/connectors on instead, but they overheat & melt internally then loose connection, so those shown on the web site avoid all of that.

Think I got mine from MPS

Just had a quote from batterystuff... They can supply and deliver the 14ah shorai for 128 quid!! All the way from across the big pond

Its £129 plus postage from the uk!! Crazy...

Dunno whether to get one or not. My bike starts pretty good of the button, but if it doesnt start after the first few turns - it can start to flatten and i have to pray. Usually harder to start outside shops where large bunches of teenagers hang out.

I've been there man, the bigger the crowd, the more I would groan under my helmet in anticipation...

I ended up kicking the rear wheel with the bike on the floor several times once, coz I couldn't even kick start it! (sorry fellow Husaberg brethren  ).

Was at the isle of man, the racing had finished & we were in a side street that accessed Braden bridge. Streams of folks leaving, perfect conditions for the beast to retaliate for all of the hard stonking over the last week.....

Anyway, happier times now, & not having those embarrassments (just side stands dropping off etc).

It does cost a fair old packet mind you, but for me, taking a ride out (and stopping somewhere!!!), is not so much a concern any more, so if anything, it buys you some piece of mind & leaves you to concentrate on all of the other things that can go wrong...

I'm not sure how the two batteries compare (mine & your Shorai), so would take a look at the technical specifications versus how much they cost.

Mine;

Nominal capacity & voltage 60,72 Wh, 4600 mAh, 13.2 V
Maximum continuous discharge 140A
Pulsed discharge at 10 sec 240A

Hope this helps

Crispin
