Ok bike is a 03 650fse
My plug is white. Headers go red and the bike overheats and blows water out fo radiator overflow if bike is parked an idles for anymore than 30 seconds.
The bike pops on decelartation. I have already had the pipes off and sealed with gum.
I have the mixtures screw 3 turns out and turning further does no good.
The jets I have are as follows
pilot 35
starter 45
main 180
needle jet dr268
needle k51
standard headers and akropovic end can

I have already ordered a 40 pilot jet but I need to increase the fuel in the rest of the range.
I see three needles in the parts manual K32, K35 and K51.. which of these is the richest?
I am going to order a bigger main.. maybe a 190?
Perhaps I should get a bigger needle jet?
Any suggestions?

Oh and when startign the bike I prime the cylinder with the choke on for a few kicks then turn it off and kick over a few times and it usually starts but if i were to touch the choke lever while the bike is running it dies instantly. I have read a post on here about this and it would appear that this may be due to too large a choke jet which someone solved by inserting a peice of wire into.

any advice appreciatd

Thanks

McM

i would recommend you have a look at the two sets of jetting in the doc. they went to 270/272 atomizer and i think all you'll ever get recommended in needles are the K35 and the K51.

do one change at a time and have a go. let us know how you get on.

you may have a headgasket gone for all that bubbling. check by running the bike with the radiator cap off and plenty of coolant IN. if it shows bubbles non-stop then you have a head gasket gone.

i found my ignition timing needed advancing for an improvement. don't worry too much about plug colour-go by feel with back to back testing.

you'll find that as you swop jets your technique for starting the bike will be all over the show as well! one day three kicks and no choke, the next, 6 kicks and all choke etc etc.

Greetings,
You have the option of sending your PHM 40 Dellorto to the US for professional restoration and modification. Price is $150.00 plus parts.
S/H/I not included.

The revisions "work" and make future tuning much easier.

Ask Mr. LeFrog. Said Frog recently had his Dellorto modified reporting favorable results. For some reason he simply does not like to mention such on this forum.

Kind Regards,
Dale

I posted an explanation of the K35 vs K51 under your topic of backfiring. I think Taffee is spot on thinking of a 270 or 272 needle jet assuming you are not at 5500 feet plus altitude. The jetting you posted looks real close to what I used to use for high altitude riding in Colorado.

My old 501 used to steam out some; I discovered a trashed out water pump impeller. To McMan in Eire, how high do you have your bike idling? Husabergs heat up fast at a fast idle. That could produce a lot of heat and cause your pipes to glow, as well as cause hard starting. If your radiator isn't real hot and it's still pushing out water,it's likely a circulation problem or your head gasket's leaking. I do think your best bet on the carb is to send it to dale. 150.00 is cheap insurance for an expensive bike. Take some free advice from me. Practice jetting on your buddies' bikes. If you figure it all out before you lose all your friends, you'll know you've nailed it. Plus, you can still ride your bike when they are all sitting on their PCs writing in to the UHE!
Welcome Aboard! :D

Gee, Dale, wait till I have a positive riding experience. Last ride I stalled it in the middle of a river and had to tow-start it, so let me give it a second try this Sunday.

Otherwise, I can already report a better starting.
