Couldn't agree more. It has been proven that when he is pushed by his competition he cracks and HITS the planet, unfortunately when he does he usually takes someone with him like he has done mutiple times this year.

most people I know find it very hard to like the image portrayed by lil bubba, a bit like schumacher in F1

I am really sick of announcers talking about stewart nonstop then he crashes and takes out other people. Besides fastest man on the planet? what about the baja winner? anyway, thought that was funny.

The MX world seems to be a little harsh on James Stewart this sx season.
If you look objectively at this past season,he won 14 of the 17 heat races. There is no question he has the speed.
He has shown to not be able to stay on his bike for all the main events.(he won a respectable 5).If you take the time to look carefully at the tapes of his crashes you may notice that he often fails to show the normal reactions of a rider about to hit the turf.No arm movement and/or body protection movements. He often appears more disoriented than he should be when he trys to remount his bike.
No matter if you are a JS7 fan or not,he is a professional athlete of unusual talent and is as phyically fit as anyone in the sport.
So what happened this season....if I where to take a shot I would say he has had a few too many concussions and is losing his ability to concentrate at the level to match his speed for 20 laps.
My next best quess,James simply maybe losing his ability to focus, especially at the night races where he has touble with the lower and ever changing light conditions.Possibly those Oakley glasses he was sporting in LA were for real.
To be fair, every athlete has a very short time to spend in the "sun". In this short little life we all have on this planet sometimes we forget the only thing that has any real value is our time,it is the medium that everything is measured against. In this respect JR has been very successful to this point and hopefully he has a management staff that will see the wisdom allowing him some time to heal this summer.

Nsman - great post. I've been worried about him this season too. I'm not his #1 fan but you have to admire his talent regardless of who you like. I've watched him as you say, disoriented, trying to remount and thought he was crazy for getting back on. I hope he's alright. He's surely been more emotional than usual. Not sure if that's because of his losses or if there's more to it than that. SX is about being on the box consistently, not about being the fastest man on the planet. But man can that guy move when he's on, he's the best...I wish there were time machines so we could see Hanna, McGrath, RC, Reed, RV, KW, JS, etc...all in their prime and see what would happen. It's like the Tyson / Ali fight we never got to see or maybe the...I'm rambling...

Anyway, good post. Hope he is good for another season or three and that he can regroup this off season.

I am not a Stewart fan but I don't like to see anyone hit the ground [planet] as often as he did this SX season. My take on the season he had is that he isn't that much faster than everyone anymore, riders on their game can stay with him and after about two laps of this he starts to tighten up and ride poorly. At Daytona he crashed on his own but most of the other crashes he was getting pushed and just blew it. Keep in mind JS7 has until this year been able to ride away from anyone, those days may be over and he needs to adjust his racecraft to suit.

I have never been much of a JS fan, and I wasn't that much of an RC fan either, both are very good riders. The latter being better by far and away if measured by heart, dedication, and results.

If one looks back just a short while, JS's troubles began when Albrecht left Yamaha for JGR. JS's bike has simply not worked right since. It's very easy to see when you watch how his bike handles compared to most everyone else. You can see his crashes coming as the little mistakes become more and more frequent, as does each one's intensity, until he falls. That could be contributed to a couple of possible scenario's. The suspension guy sucks, or JS is not listening to the suspension guy and is telling him how to set up his bike. Either way, Ray Charles could see his bike handles like crap.

I predicted at the beginning of the year to a couple of my friends that he very well could have a career ending injury during a race. I was glad my prediction did not materialize. If you also notice, his crashes all seem to come during races, and not in practice. Sometimes he is getting pressured and sometimes he is not.

Perhaps, just perhaps, if JS were to skip a few seasons of "Bubba's World" and get back to his roots, loose the ex up and coming french SX/MX fat bitch he has waiting on him hand and foot, he would most likely regain his superiority on the track. Getting arrested for impersonating a cop by putting police lights in his truck, and........wait for it............ pulling over two off duty police officers. What a Dork! Maybe Ralph Shaheen should have given him the Brett Micheal's ride hard award for that pin headed move. Reminds me of that other kid who had all that talent, but, couldn't keep his punk a*s mouth shut, and stay away from booze and fighting. Can't even remember his name now...............Alas I digress.

JS's speed is still there, it's just obscured by his fame, deity status that the media has heaped upon him, and perhaps, call me crazy, his own ego.

You know, it takes a lot to get Kevin Wyndham riled up enough to get in your face, too bad we were not privy to K-Dubs advice to James after K-Dub hit JS's bike and went down. But as usual K-Dub was a class act when interviewed. The sad part is, that it was obvious that K-Dub was on his way to passing JS and taking the win.

I for one an sick and tired of hearing Ralph Shaheen's shrill accolades of JS's and the constant word barf gushing out of his mouth about the "FIM World Monster Energy AMA Supercross blah blah blah. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! For Christ's sake, shut up and focus on the racing!!!

Thank God Jeff Emig is there, and on rare occasions RC for some excellent announcing of the event. And what ever happened to Christa Voda? I liked her. Instead we have Erin (nice enough girl I suppose) and her ****S asking the riders the stupid Jack Aroot questions, "What are the emotions you are feeling right now" You darn well know he wants to kick the guy's a*s! At one race it was classic........She's standing in front of the gates, yammering away, isn't paying attention to the fact the 30 second board is gone, and the riders start yelling at her to get out of the way, gotta love it.

I hope that JS, does like, who was it, that Hansen's boy? And go to Australia in the off season, leave his cell phone and all the other BS behind, and focus on training and riding. Who knows maybe he could have a beer with his buddy Chad. It's either that or he needs to hang it up before he get's pasted, as he just doesn't know how to back it down when it isn't his day.

In closing I would say that I totally agree with NSMAN and his post, I just had to throw in my little diatribe about the whole circus.

Good observations, Stewart has always run lower in the stroke than anyone. So disappointed when he took out Wyndham. I live in Seattle and go to the Sx and Washougal (best national IMHO) every year. He has been dominate here and fun to watch but I pull for Wyndham and our local hero RV.

RV has skills that are still improving. He gets his weight back more than anyone and is relentless without getting over his head.

One last comment...............

I saw JS take out MC when MC was running like 6 races that year just for fun. He was riding a CR 250 and doing quite well against the 450's on the starts. He would run up front for a while, and when the fast young bucks would catch him, he, MC, would totally open the door and let them through.

From where I was sitting in the "P" section at Anaheim one year I had a perfect view of a left hand corner, and as MC approached this corner with JS on his tail, MC went way high in the corner to let JS by. JS repaid this chivalrous gesture by running high and taking out MC's front wheel.

When MC stood up, he put his hands on his hips and looked down the straight at the rapidly departing JS, and shook his head.

MC of course regrouped and made it to the main.

On the start of the main event JS had a pretty good start, as pack entered the first corner, there was a red streak that came through with a big 2 on the back of his jersey, and lo, the next thing you knew JS was picking his stuff up off the ground, and the man in red with the big 2 on his back was cruising down the next straight looking back at JS as JS looked down the straight only to see the "old man" pointing at him.

So, it was evident to me at that time JS had no respect for even the greatest rider of SX of all time. Therefore, a reasonable person could assume that he has no respect of himself.

I have to disagree with you on Stewart taking Windham out, Windham was following in the same line as JS, he should have been on another line to make the pass and not hit JS. I am a Windham fan by the way, also like Stewart, would have been way cool for Windham to win.

Husarod I have to disagree with you, if you look at the race again KW was on a different line than JS and when JS started to swap he came over into KW's line and KW really didn't have any where to go. JS is fast but I think he rides over his head and doesn't think when he is on the track, this is nothing new for him and that is proven by the crash that he had with RC at a national a few years back when he overjumped a jump and landed on the back of RC and made them both crash. Now that RC (aka the GOAT) is gone I think JS thinks he should be winning the championships but the young guys have stepped up and are putting the pressure on him and I don't think he can handle it. Dale EO I do agree with you that it looks like his bike does not handle very well especially in the whoops. Just my opinion.
