maybe he meant to combine whining and winning. You need to be more flexible linguistically, taff.

Hi BrianSM
Replace the primary gear and your problem will be gone!!
Taffy: My Spelling is in order I believe!!

Correct me if I'm wrong here guys but this "whining" we are talking about here can it just be the tell-tale sound of a straight cut gear husaberg bike? I thought my bike ('02 FC550) was broken when I first picked it up because of the whining sound it made also. I was reassured that it was normal on Husabergs due to the strong/straight cut gears and have had almost three years of trouble free riding out of my bike since! Did the bike make the noise since new????

Regards,

Yup, got the bike with 26 miles on it, basically brand new......making that noise since day one....
The guy who just did a fantastic job on my engine, (lots of updates) told me the same thing....he mentioned that the build on this particular engine is the tightest he's seen...other than the noise this bike is perfect, engine idles and revs out like a 2 stroke...I love this bike !! wish I had bought a Berg sooner !!! So I am not complaining at all, but my race mates give me odd looks when I pull up onto the pre grid......
Does your 550 still make the same noise after three years......?

:D this to me sounds like the bike had the wrong set of gears installed

at the factory, if what i'm reading is correct. 01, 02's used a few

different gear set ups, in the clutch, primary, water pump & balancer

i'll do some reserch & get back to ya lads.

Brian,
Yes, my bike still makes the whining sound but not as noticeable after three years. Maybe it has just become less noticeable to me now that I have become used to it but I do still notice it compared to other bikes. I have ridden the bike for three years now without any problems what so ever. Never had the case apart to check anything just oil changes religiously. I don't know anything about bad gears or anything else that has been mentioned in this thread, thats not to say I know everything, but I can only speak from my experiences. I think the noise you are having may just be the sound of a finely tuned swedish four stroke machine doing what its supposed to. If you start having problems than maybe concern is needed but at this point I would just have a blast riding that wonderful machine!!!

I wonder If I knelt down and kissed Husaberg's feet and begged maybe they might take pity on this old wretched sole, and help me out..... :(

Well, after 5-6 Hrs of track riding the noise is getting quieter......I have been changing the oil regularly and have noticed no shavings or excess material :D :D The bike still starts cold with e-start and idles very well and continues to pull like a rocket that it is......so I'm happy !! Thanks to Boss, a very well tuned bike that runs perfectly...

For what's its worth. When I upgraded my 02 fx470e single row counter balancer to a double row counter balancer. The bike now has a higher pitch sound to it in the same location as you description, not sure if this helps?

BrianSM,

My '02 FC550 also has the double row counter balencer bearings as 70marlin stated he has in his FX470e. My bike whines still after three years of riding and no unusual debris has been found in that time. Im sure this is just the distinctive sound of a Husaberg you are hearing...
