Now that I have cleansed all the expletives from my system, I will do my best not to introduce too many to this thread :D :D :D

Basically, my 2001 650 engine blew up again last night - no warning, no hint, just a big screech and then someone somewhere dropped lots of loose change into the engine.

Yes, it was a big fear moment that dawns on you it could become extremely painful! Luckily I pulled the clutch in and more or less rolled to a stop - we were doing about 70mph on some gravel path at the time

Anyway, it's now time to call it a day with this engine, however much effort, time or money I put into it, it just goes bang - as my girlfriend says, it is totally jinxed, without a doubt!

So, what does this mean?

I am on the scrounge for an engine and/or engine bits that may be knocking around in the back of garages/stuff in the loft, or even hidden under your kitchen sink.

Preferably I would like to re-create the equivalent of an 03 650 [1], but I will settle for a 450, 501, 550, or 650, even a 2000 600 that could squeeze into a 2001 frame (beggars can't be choosers sort of thing).

I don't have a lot of money at the moment as I haven't be able to work for 16 months due to getting a chronic neurological illness, so I am definitely only looking for second hand, not required anymore bits and bobs, that you're willing to sell for a reasonable amount.

[1] This is because my 03 650 has proven to be impeccably reliable.

Yours hopefully,
Simon

Hi,

I would say your counter balancer was blown.
Don´t you believe you can repair your engine? But maybe that costs
likewise the same money than buying another used engine. But another used engine can also get damaged after some hours of riding....
Last week I cracked 3 transmission gear wheels, I disassembled the
engine and changed the whole transmission with a used one I got
in my garage. I saw that my 501 model 2002 hasn´t got the double bearing
counterbalancer and it already had a bigger clearance than the values in the list
of tolerances. I changed the whole counter balancer weight.
For me it was kind of luck, I have got a 2001 501 engine in reserve, but the cylinder head and clutch are already sold. But I don´t think I can
help you with some spare parts or a whole engine.

good luck

hribman,

unfortunately it's not quite as simple as that - I could repair the engine without question.

The issue is that this engine, whatever I or anyone else for that matter, do it will not remain reliable. I seriously doubt it is the counter balancer - this has a new bearing and it has the lighter 400 weight in it. This is after running for two race seasons without a balancer in it.

The engine has been rebuilt untold times - I'm just not going to waste my time or money on this particular engine any more - it is cursed........

Cheers,
Simon

Hi Simon,
what would you be asking for your jinxed 650 engine in present blown up configuration?

Kindly,
Dale

Hi Dale,

That's a really good question, I have no idea what I would ask for it.

Curiosity did get the better of me today and it is nearly at the splitting cases point - obviously I've got to find the cause :D

Perhaps we can have a discussion around an agreeable price?

Cheers,
Simon

motor

Simon, I have a 2000 FX600E Motor that Has been super reliable. The only thing that has gone bad is the Stator assembly which I replaced 2 years ago. I have also has the head intake valves replaced, and the stronger Husy rocker rollers installed (6 months ago). It would require you use my 600 frame as the mounts are different on Pre-2001 engines. I blew the rear wheel and am riding the 2000 FC501 i also own. I would sell the motor and the frame for $1000.
