Been converting all 2002s to 08 cam recently and really winding up those ADC springs till they twanged. the great news is that we've done about 4 2001/2s and they all spin over far quicker due to the 08 cam.

as i suspected - and it isn't rocket science - I knew that the only phuqin thing I wasn't cxhanging was the cam, absolutely everything else was how I wanted it. so why did the '03s start and not the 01/2s?

well the 08 cam has cured it and I've got one here now ready to go out and you can't even hear it turn over. I've NEVER had that before!

it simply starts.

Taff, you should consider moving to the States. I just don't have nearly enough time to tinker with things that I would like to. :idea: You and Dale L could open a shop and split the rent. I would be your first customer.

It's not tinkering in a way Eric. I pretty much knew what I wanted. I always liken it to a 500 piece jigsaw and there are 10 bits left. glad to get it right.

you know, my old man was a guru (can I say 'as well') on Jaguar Cars in the 60's and 70's and as I have told you many times, we were surrounded all around us by the yanks in housing who were based at Lakenheath and Mildenhall.

they loved their Jag- u-'r's (we say jagyewers) and what did they always say: hey Denny! you need to come over to the States man there ain't nobody over there with your knowledge!

apparently very similar! possibly a tad more torque and a slight drop off the top. I haven't had a chance to test them myself so I have to go by others guidance.

They should be similar since the 400 with the torque cam start well.

Do you remenber that we have made a exange in one fx470 '01 from the 53 cam to the 02, I only ride it for 30min. and it runs great but its a realy ***** to start.

Should it start better with the 53 cam?

Since this girl has allready the +04 ADC, the DVSK and the mod. sledge, Will the 08 cam be my miracle solution to the start problem?

I think you need to get used to what the engine wants, to set the carb fuel screw how it wants. I found this problem many years ago like you. I adjusted the PS a little but this time with starting in mind and then the bike was OK.

Don't understand, "starting in mid" ??

Is the PS with 1,5 out a good starting point for you ?

Is the 08 cam only specific to the 650's? Or can it be used in the other displacement engines as well?

I see in the 04 parts manual that the 650 cam is unique to the 650 while all other displacements use another part number.

Is the 2004 camshaft for the 650 what we are referring to as the "08" cam?

yes Duane

the 08 cam was also standard in the other engines I thought from 2004 but I haven't checked. there are plenty of them about. it's similar to my torque cam essentially.... there's a sales pitch there! I'll have to get that one going!

the X2 essentially the same as the 08? for what? starting maybe :p

FWIW the Taffie tourque cam is essentially a cheap shameless copy of lineaweavers LX-2 profile developed with Megacycle in the US.

there are some threads on the difference between it and the 08 if you search

I have the anti squat figures correct, my point has allways been that they need to be differeent to a 50+ yrs old welsh vetran over 100kgs on a widdle 400

seriously I don't mind anything ol taff posts its all good entertainment but if hes going to try and sell a cheap regrind of lineaweavers cam profile as a "taffmiesters tourque cam" by saying its essentially the same as an 08 I believe he owes us all an explanation ?

he doesn't have an answer so hes into posting his typical load of bollicks n tosh? I don't get it :?

according to the specs and those who have tried them the 08 cam like for like is most similar to the LX-1 cam sold by Taff as the "top end cam" though it should have less tourque than the 08

compared to the taff tourque (X2) that I tried, the 08 profile makes more power and has more usable rev range, peak tourque is about the same but found lower down in the revs with the X-2, the X-2 makes more off idle tourque and gives a smoother power delivery when used in the stock head. port the head and the 08 is nicely smooth gives plenty of tourque and a honking top end to go with it.
