As I said above, Loctite Master Gasket works fine, tested by me for years in my 501s big tank with the exact same problem, ie screws penetrating the inside. I checked and its also called Loctite 518 if that helps.

ive used a big soldering iron and melted a cable tie or Zip tie into the plastic tank and its lasted, it will bond to the tank and doesnt seem to be affected by fuel and sets hard, you need to melt the affected part of the tank a bit and then melt the tie in just like normal soldering. good thing is you can colour match as well. Cheap fix using the excess you cut off the tie

Sorry to dig up an old thread here but it has some info that might help me out.
I put a hole in the tank on the weekend (laid the bike over in slow motion onto a stick) and I'm wondering what exactly the tank material is? What HDPE is it? I know there are a few different types so I want to make sure I engauge the right person to fix the leak.
Anyone ever thought about making a guard up for this area?

It's a titanium FMF megabomb. Love it! Thought it would be too much for the dirt but have learned to ride with it. In motard trim it's made the bike really nice, got a little more top end.

Yeah definitely more top end with the FMF and better throttle response. I like mine too. Maybe not Akra fit n finish, but it sure is pretty light and looks good and well made.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a new tank (live in Australia)? I wouldn't mind finding a lower price if thats possible...I do realise these are expensive items.
Well I think you should try plastic welding at first. HDPE plastic should be weldable and cost anywhere from $20-100 for that size hole. I fixed mine with just epoxy but the puncture size was so minimal that it wouldn't matter really anyway.
I agree to try some of the solutions above, another option may be to set up a liquid tank liner, there are a couple on the market that will offer a permanent repair and will handle high grade 98 ron fuels,
Just a thought, done it many times on Harley tanks, agreed they're steel btu it fills in rust holes so may be worth considering....personally I'd just buy a new tank
