Hi all

I have a FS650e 02 mod and its pritty hard 2 start, i only use the kick(flat battery) The problem is biggest when the engine is cold, especially when the outside temp is below 10-15 degrees celsius. Then i have to kick 10 or maybe 100 times! But if the temp is 20+ outside i "only" need to kick aboute 5 times. When the bike has been driven for a while and than been standing still for a few houers, it usualy comes on the 1.-3. kick, if its not to cold and rainy that is. Seems like the bike dont like bad weather.. hehe. This is a big problem for me, since i live on the west coast of Norway and the weather her is often not god.
It also revs up a bit for a few sec if i give a littel juice and then let go of the throttel

What sould i do?
Clean the carb, get a new needle perhaps?
New jetting?

Sorry for the bad english..

I have had the same type of problem with a yamaha that i had, i had to use thinner oil in the winter as i couldn't kick the motor over fast enough to make it fire, so check with the last owner and try an oil change to the coerect spec oil.

Okey, thank's for the tip =)
Im now using "Motul 300V Competition 4T 15W50" but if im not wrong, it is sugested in the manual that i use 5W50 for cold conditions. So next time i change oil, i will use 5W50 and see if this works.

ciao,
great bike !

Adjusting the idle with idle and mixture screw.
Adjusting the valves.

These helped me a lot, plus a fresh plug. I use platinium.... fancy stuff...

When I picked up my new Berg Motul 300V Factory Line fully synthetic 5W40 was recommended.
After running in with mineral oil I have changed over to above, no problem starting of the kickstart hot or cold.

Was just thinking to buy that oil:p
But something i have been trying for the last 2-3 days when starting it cold, is to first kick 3 times whit the decomp inn, and then smack it hard on the 4. kick, i do this 3 times whit the choke ON, end then a few times whit the choke off and it starts... Seems to work most times.

Hi there,

I have a 2002 FC470 and had the exact same problem. A friend of mine took off the carb and cleaned all parts of it. After this it starts perfectly again!

Maybe worth a try...

Good luck!

Since the snow is comming, and there will be no riding, im thinking of giving the bike a little love and care :p
So then i will clean the carb! maby get a new needle..

Regards

I had the exactly the same problem with my FE650 03. I cleaned the carb thoroughly twice and check the valve clearance twice. Still hard to start.
I found out that the Delo carb was extremely sensitive for adjustment of the mixure screw. I adjusted the carb with the "highest idle method" and this solved my problem.
By the way I use stock jettings in Sweden so I´ll guess that will work for you as well.

Lycka till
