for those that have done engine rebuilds you will have dreaded that moment....the moment when you peer (sp?) down the side of the rod, the crank, the barrel, the piston and try to time the balancer with the gear on the intermediate shaft.
on the pre '03s this was easier as the crank had more holes than swiss cheese!
however, post '03 it gets bloody hard!
today though i spotted how you can gaurantee that you got it right afterwards!
if you think you have timed it right, all you do is turn the balancer to the top so you are looking at the end of the balancer "pork chop". there is a dot in the middle and as that dot runs past the right hand side of the gear on the intermediate shaft there is a dot on there too. the dot of the I.S. is about 1mm below the surface of the balancer. the dots pass each other at 90d yet virtually touch.
