Gentleman i am in need of a larger fuel tank.i have heard rumors of a large allumm tank being made in europe .i need about three and a half gallons to make the hundred miles required to get from pit to pit at baja..if not a tank ...let me hear what some of you have done for more fuel capacity..the under the seat tank is an option but i am not sure it will fit into the 04 bikes..i have everything else worked out on the bike .but i need more fuel..pitting every fifty miles would put us at a true disadvantage ...thanks bergdaddy

I have an 04 bike and an aux tank. I have not installed it yet but it looks like it will fit with minimal fabrication. The tank only nets 3/4 of a gallon. I would think this would get you close to 100 miles. what kind of fuel mileage are you getting? I seem to get 35-40mpg although that is not at anything close to "race" conditions.

my 400 is very ecenomical on the new keihin carb. i like to run my jetting quite low so that i'm as close to corect as opposed to rich. i also have an auxillary tank i can fit and i believe that makes 3 gallons.
i would also suggest that if you can race 'on the margin' you should take 1 litre of fuel in a back pack like a lot of the top runners do over here in the UK.
by fitting reserve taps (see my sheets or ask fontana 302) and the above you can make a RACING difference.

I would thing that this aux tank under the seat wouldn't work out, as it fills off the main tank through gravity. That would kind of mess up those quick pit stops.
Supposedly Husaberg is going to be producing a 18 litre tank for the current models. Give Olga a call at premiere motor sports out in Phoenix. She's the owner there, and she got this info from her employee that went to the dealer show a short time ago. If it's true, I would think 4+ gallons should get you a hundred miles with room to spare.

the tank under the seat is the only real option that i know of right now .the slow filling may just need to be dealt with .thats why i am putting out this post looking for other ideas i have had fabricators look at it and the cost of fabing one alumm tank is more than we have a budget for ..does anyone have an aux tank that i can try and see were we are with mileage how well it works and how long it takes to fill ..this site is full of more knowledge about husabergs than anywere in the world . i need to work this out ....and oh yea taffy we will have a liter of gas stashed somewere on the bike as backup .its almost funny how much crap goes on these bikes before a race of this length .SCORE .mandates a large first aid kit flash light and some other safety bits.we also carry extra bulbs for the lights.air filter .tools and two way radio....thanks for all tour help guys .bergdaddy

Do you remember the Acerbis auxillary tank that took the place of the front number plate? It worked real good. Came in .8 and 1.2 gallon capacities. The fuel was pulled through the vent in the gas cap. I still have a new 1.2 gallon version which I will be installing on mt son's YZ 85 this desert season. I had the .8 gallon one on it and it cracked. It was getting old and brittle. It would probably be more cost effective to make one of these out of aluminum than a complete tank. If you would like I will take some pics and post them here for awhile.

I get a clean 41 mpg at race speeds with no problems. The furthest I've gone without fueling is 134 miles using both tanks.
If 'berg is planning on an 18 liter tank, I sure hope they make it adaptable to a quick-fill system.

It seems to me that if the Big Red Pig is currently the Baja king, we are talking about a more constant speed type of race as oppose to Supercross type of sprints. So you should get fairly decent gas mileage. The stock tank plus the under seat tank should suffice. 2 one liter bottles in the backpack would be an adequate reserve, without being cumbersome. My 12 year old son carries 4 or 5 one liter bottles in his backpack, so he can go the distance on his KTM85sx when we ride. He forgets they are even there, I have to remind him to fill his tank each hour.
Remember how the under the seat tank caused the Husaberg team to dnf last time? If they had carried a couple 1L bottles in reserve, they could have continued.
BTW, we use the SCHWEPPS soda bottles, they have the large mouth type opening, so you can pour faster; one quick squeeze and in 3 seconds they are empty.

POWERCELL..are you running the under the seat tank if so have you had any issues with it ..does it fill under the the seat wich is not a big deal as the air filter will be changed at every pit and do you need to run a fuel pump.could you send me pics..i am thinking about going to the 24 hours of glen helen this weekend as we have a ktm team that will be participating .if so maybe we can get together .looking forward to seeing you ..let me know and maybe you can stop by the races and hang around the pits with us ...bergdaddy
