Ayyyyyy ... Whoa.

It ... wow. Could be the right size for a rod bearing? But those would be held captive by the rod and crank ... I hope? :O

Something in the head related to the cams?

that will be your rod needle rollers. are they 3.5mm or 4mm in diameter?

I sell A.M rods for those.

they are prone to the odd and occasional instant failure, not sure why?

regards

Taffy

3.5mm dia and 15.7mm in lenght.

Failure due to high revs for long periods racing on ice. Not my 570, just helping my friend.

The lower part of the rod exploded and shot through the cases. The piston stopped it by smashing into the crank.

Maybe a moderator could move this thread to mechanical? Taffy gave the answer straight away and this is as mechanical as it gets.

About that drain plug it's 13mm. If it's on to tight and you might strip it use a 1/2" socket tap it on with a hammer and use a long ratchet and it will come off. Worked for Me. By the way how many hours on that bike when it died?

The bike has only 300-ish hours. But I talked to my friend as I only could find 4 dl of black oil in it. He did change the oil and filled it correctly, but he got carried away racing on the ice so from going full revs and shifting down two gears in corners he over revved the engine. He raced it hard for several hours over revving it now and then. Oil probably escaped through the breather hose during the abuse and at the end the crankshaft gave up.

The bike had other signs of hard racing. Missing studs, knobs and even a hole through the plastics where one of the knobs from the tire had shot through when it was flinged of.

He did have a fun day through :) Bit expensive in hind sight....

I have a 570 engine in bits in Holland. I am designing something and that is where it sits, with a colleague, being drawn up and measured as and when he needs to look at it.

I imported the engine from the States and the actual engine is of no interest to me, it is just there for measuring and viewing. however, if your friend wants a rebuilt engine with my cases, he can have it BUT I want his wrecked cases in P/ex OK?

so tell him to get in touch with me if interested.

regards

Taffy

He already have a spare set of cases with gears, but I will tell him for sure! The two of us always have plans and ideas so who knows :) I will send you a pm later. Thanks!
