ive just brought a 02 501 berg and im wrapped the only issue i have is that it spits a 6 inch flame from the exhaust when i free rev it is this a common thing or do i have problems.

Hi Miller,

This commom to all four stroke engines that is allowing air into the exuast system, the air getting in mixes with the unburnt gas so you end up with loud popping or in your case a bit of flame, try sealing the system and see if this inproves things.
The best engines for doing this were the rotory Nortons raced in the eighties they just did shoot flames.

Regards

Sparks.

mine still does it a bit on the over run but my daughter reved it one day while i was bent over changeing the rear bulb burnt my ear and nearly sent me deff.so be carefull

RE: Re: flames out the exhaust

first place to seal up properly is where the headers join the mid-section of the exhaust.

iIF THE MOTOR STILL DOES IT AFTER YOU FIXED THE EXHAUST UP,LOOK AT THE JETTING,MINE DID THAT,I FOUND IT TO BE THE PILOT JET TOO SMALL.SOMETHING YOU CAN TRY,IS TO LOWER NEEDLE CLIP POSITION A COUPLE OF NOTCHES IF THAT CURES IT ,YOU PROBABLY NEED TO GO UP A COUPLE OF SIZES IN THE PILOT.

REGARDS WEED

Whats best to seal up the exhaust with?
Still like to get it apart easily.

Coops

thanks fellas i had a leak at the headers where it meets the head now all i have to do is try and find a 2nd hand set as these dont look the best.

boy, ain't that the truth fraser, when i went over my new to me 04, i couldn't believe how much gap there was at that joint. (hey, they didn't have that qc problem when they were made in sweden :x ) i used red rtv, and after assembly, used a heat gun to cure before starting so it wouldn't all blow out.
