I have made and inserted a removable square filter in the top tube of my 02 650 SM just before the 2 air filter holes. I couldn't successfully clean all of the deposits out of the top tube from the breather to the airfilter section - so this seemed the best location etc.
I've also made a spiral filter from air filter paper and placed it in the rubber breather hose from the cam cover.
I rode around 75 miles today inc 3 stops (fuel & beer for the eve) with successful kickstarts each time. I'm grinning from ear to ear! Great scratch, but still more to learn etc.
I'll inspect the new filters after another trip and report back incase anyone's interested?
