Hi all,

I have had the bike for a couple of months and put about 10hrs in so far. A few questions have been collecting on my mind ...

1) I have noticed that my bike, is harder to start when hot .... it could be my, I am suspect, original battery not being able to hold a full charge or you will tell me that is the way it is. I noticed that if I give it a bit of throttle it will start usually right away, but if I go just for the red button push and off throttle, the starter will spin (mind you it seems not at great speed), it tries to fire, but it will not run in the end ... I read something about auto-decompression being spotty?? But why would the little throttle help it?

2) Is there a way to tell by VIN, whether my bike has the updated fuel pump? I read they have changed it at the end of 2011 model year?

Thanks and cheers

I also have a 2011 FE390, bought this spring. Mine does the same thing - sometimes. My "fixes" - 1. New Lithium Ion battery. 2. Adjust the idle adjustor up a bit (hard to get to, just aft of the left radiator) you pull it out and turn it counter-clockwise to increase idle speed. 3. Be sure it is in neutral when starting - engine spins faster because the clutch drags when in gear - more when engine is cold - hot oil makes clutch drag less. If it starts and then runs with just little throttle, you are probably not having fuel pump problems. These bikes are hard to get into neutral when running - easy when not running, but VERY little movement go from first to neutral. BTW, LOVE this bike, especially with the tubliss system and MAXXIS Desert tires - run them with 8 or so psi in front and 10 in back - can actually run this tire with zero pressure! Tires hook up very well and track like crazy! And great torque! Enjoy - HusaGeezer

OK, thanks guys. Good to hear that it is just normal. I will get a new battery in the off-season.

I do not want raise the idle any more than it is, because I have Recluse clutch on it which basically free wheels when off throttle. I already lack the stock engine breaking force, more idle would make it worse.

Agreed with the neutral, but I don't really care with the Recluse ... LOL
