I have about 130 hrs on my 2011 FE390. Recently after shutting the engine off while on a ride the bike would not start back up! After sitting for about 10 minutes it fires up. This has now happened twice. It runs fine but when I shut it off it won't start back up. It turns over fine but seems to not be getting fuel maybe! Its one of those problems that just happens and then its fine. What are some things to check! Could it be the fuel pump! It does not quit running on me, it just won't start after shutting it off!

I would definitely check the fuel pump. Mine used to do the same thing. Im not sure how you go about checking it though because usually it runs fine when you are trying to diagnose it! I had a dealer check mine and he told me it was fine. A few rides later, with the same thing happening a few times, it finally just stopped! I pulled the pump out, took some pics of it and sent them to Husaberg Australia. They agreed that my pump was faulty and swapped me for a new one. Not sure if they would still do that these days. Since fitting the new pump, not a problem!

My 570 does something similar, but found with the smallest bit of throttle it starts. If you give it to much throttle it winds so far and that gets to much compression and won't start. Just had the injector cleaned but have yet to finish putting it back together to give it a run.

My 2010 390 has the same issue; in particular when I'm putsing around with my youngest and the bike gets hot. My bike has a new pump, a fan, and it has reflective tape under the tank to try and help keep things cool and this still happens.

Galbo's suggestion works but its always nerve wracking when this happens. Unfortunately, you can't get a kick start kit for the 70 degree motor so when the battery's drained, you're walking.

Just wondering if anyone can help me with my 09 390 starting problem, it has always started easy from cold but took half a dozen turn overs from warm and just a smidgen of throttle which was annoying but bearable. In saying that though recently and suddenly it has become hard to start from cold (prob half a dozen turn overs) and unnervingly hard to start from warm ( probably a dozen or more turn overs) almost to the point that the battery nearly goes flat before she fires and yes it is a new battery, 2 rides old and charged in between every ride. Brand new spark plug too.
Just checked valve clearances today and will replace in tank fuel filter tomorrow, any other suggestion's would be appreciated.

Mine does the opposite..takes about 4-5 cranks to fire from cold but starts first crank from warm. Its a 570 though not the 390..is this normal? its always done it since ive owned it but it hasn't flattened my battery yet so i haven't worried about it.

Bonkers Please let us know when you locate the problem with yours im interested to know what may be causing it.

Just finished installing the new Hi-Flow fuel pump and bike starts and runs like new again! I could tell right away by how easy it starts now that it made a big difference and throttle response is even improved. If your having starting issues don't hesitate to change out the fuel pump. I also cleaned the injector while I had it apart.

Berg starting probs

Aido 570, to me that sounds perfectly normal, my last two WRF250's did exactly that and I wish my Berg did. You expect a bit to start from cold but when warm should fire up straight away. Really wouldn't be too big a problem if some peanut who designed these things put a freeken kick starter on it.
Just another question, the filter every one talks about as having to fine a mesh, is that the one in the tank or after the line from the tank in the throttle body?
And also is high octane fuel necessary? I've always ran any old thing and it never seemed to make much difference.

All the talk is about that small filter next to the throttle body.

To make my 570 start easier and quicker I quickly push the starter button, that makes the fuel pump prime the hose. You can hear the fuel pump and when it stops it can be started much easier and quicker.

Good Tip jon! thanks for that i'll try it.

Bonkers: The manual for my 570 says to use 95 RON fuel but i'm unsure if the Euro 95 RON fuel is equivalent to what we get here in Australia so i use only 98 octane fuel in my 570.

I removed the little filter in the fuel line just before the throttle body. It has the big filter in the tank and I also run the sock in the neck of the tank so I figured I did not need the little bity one! I also run 91 octane ethanol free fuel in mine.

Just a note, The United States does not use the standard RON fuel rating system. They use a fuel rating system known as AKI (Anti Knock Index) US 91 AKI fuel is equivalent to AU 95 RON fuel, so therefore mikej55 is actually using 95 RON fuel which is the minimum requirement for the 390/570 engines.

If you are having problems starting when hot, check your valve clearances. It's a very easy job, even though it sounds terrifying the first time you try it. I would put money on the fact some of your valves are out of spec.

Gjws, that was the first thing I checked and there spot on, the bikes only got 90 odd hours on it but I still I thought it was a good place to start. Thanks anyway.

How much money are you willing to lose! I checked mine also while I had it apart and they were spot on at 130 hrs!
