I recently put a FCR41 on a 2003 FE400 And it start a LOT smoother.
I dont know if the main jet is correct, there is a 160 keihin MJ in now, and it came from a YZF450 with a MJ170

Dont know about needles etc.

i left this thread hoping someone could reply but i can't recall who has put one on an earlier model.

what i can say is that it shouldn't be a problem setting it up. it will have the same fuel curve as the later 400 as they shared the same cam and valve sizes as mine.

so if you think it will fit then go ahead and i'll give you the right jetting from the off.

Taffy

I fitted a wr400 mk1 to my 98 501 which will be similar to your 97. pics and specs in my gallery. I'd do it again, unless I got a Dale modified Dellorto. Definite improvement.

Not convinced on the fcr yet, shure wish I could try one first before spending the cash.

dont know about the 97 bike but 2000> fitting an fcr is the best mod you can easily do. plus finding a second hand one saves quite a bit of money
