JWilly, that's one more French word in the English language? I wonder if that's what William said when his horse kicked him.

dog's bollocks = it's the business = this is the perfect stuff!

That's actually a pretty cool thing. I learned England-English and when I moved to the States I noticed all the differences.

The pendant: 280+ US expressions

People do say "accelerator" in the States, just not as common as "gas pedal" but most people will understand what you say.

Also some English slang is coming to the States, like "shag", partly thanks to Austin Powers. Also because the"F" word is censored so any other word to describe the doing the nasty is adopted.

LMAO... in Aussie ('ozzie'.. just in case you were in doubt yanks, and YES WE WON THE SECOND TEST AS WELL!!!) a 'SHAG' is a cormorant (sea bird) which is a sleek looking bird which enjoys a good deep dive (usually to catch fish)... now you mention it, the similarities are there.. LOL

Oh mr powers, youre' a naughty man!

I just realized that the word "spanner" meant "wrench".

Now I can understand Taffy.

if you meet an ugly bird she's said to have a face like a box of spanners!

RE: Re: RE: English to American Dictionary (yes, I said Amer

So if your saloon gets a flat tyre you stop her by the kerb and use a spanner to fix it?

RE: Re: RE: English to American Dictionary (yes, I said Amer

mmm correct. except that we never ever use the word "saloon" for anything. it's a word that came back over the pond to describe a 4-door saloon but we don't have them anymore. a car is either a coupe, hatchback, fastback, etc etc.

That's what I thought... I never heard that word while in Britain but somebody insisted it was a common word.
