engine breather mod

Not sure I like that idea, as discussed here oil is thrown up through the back leg of the breather and drains back down the front leg and on to the cam. Remove the back leg removes lubrication to the cam and rocker gear.
Thats my theory correct me if I am wrong.
Cheers spanner.

When I 'll rebuild my engine I will post some photos of my cam and rocker gear to see what kind of wear they will had.I installed this breather to my Berg at 50 hours,so I think at 100 in any case we could understand what kind of wear increasing this patent can make..Also any other that made that to his breather and rebuild his engine, can post some photos of his cam and rocker gear.Thats the only way to find out whats realy happend 100% I think. :)

if they wanted the oil to end up on the cam and rocker surely they could have done a better job

not to say that wasn't the idea with the extra breather... just that it doesn't really work .... if the front one was relocated to directly above the rocker arm holes like where lineaweaver put his pressure line then it might be a tip top idea. as is though its sort of a joke.

I blocked mine at 50 hrs and used a one way valve,170 hrs now and everything looks fine, the blowby was/is so little I have to rev the bejesus out of the engine just to see the breather isn't blocked so one is enough for me.

someday ill put 2 little tubes from the rear blocked breather over to drip oil above the rocker arm holes. thoughit might be better to use the oem approach relocated or with a 3rd big plug above the cam lobes and rocker arm oil holes for the oil to drip down.

Use oil that mists naturally or be a fast wild and crazy guy riding fast and hard and jumping a lot and I'm sure you get more than enough lubrication, at the same time as you get oil mist blowing out of your motor with the blow by gasses. You dont want this stuff in the frame air box since it runs down to the carb so the mod is a good idea, no doubt about it.
I think that for most guys the breather mod is a good thing but it may not be that good under all circumstances.
Using less volatile oil and riding slow like a nun and with hardly any blow by I think there is a slight risk of oil starvation in the valve train though. In this case anything that stirs up and whirls around what little oil mist and droplets you still get is a good thing, and the mod might not do that for you.

I'm running the mod and a -03(?) oil fed type exhaust rocker fed with an oil line that uses very little oil, but very little oil does the job and is a lot better than no oil.
Running the motor wo rocker covers there is a lot of oil splashing out so I'm not worried. Without the oil line there was nothing 8O even when revving the bejesus out of the engine.
Regards.

AGAIN :D
the mod is the only way to fit the alu tank on a 650

tried editing the tank, by rising it but it didn't fit anyway

ah and I use the falling off a lot method .... helps too :) every time i flip the bike to do a BV change it must soak the valvetrain in oil a bit

what is the usal amount of oil to come ot of the breather because the last two times iv been up to the track a **** load has come out about 150 mls. dose more come out the harder you rev the engine or have i done some damage to inards :?:

When I got my first Berg, an 06 FE550, it had been used by Adam Lees for the Australian four day that year. It came with the breather mod which was a length of heater hose clamped onto the front vent with the frame & rear vent capped off. I've done the same with my 07 FE550 but this time I scrunched some foam, like the 2 strips on either side on the frame where the tanks sits, up the end of the pipe as a precaution for dirt. Theoretically, the inside of the pipe is covered in oil anyway which any dirt would attach to. Haven't done it yet to the FS650 but will soon.

It also came with a CDI unit that had a sticker on it that read "husaberg 4 days". Never found out what this was but love to know ?
