EFM AutoClutch!

um... so why go to all the bother of dismantling everything, when you can buy a Rekluse Z-start autoclutch for about the same amount, and you dont have to remove the whole clutch basket, and side covers?... its a much easier install,.. and it also worked straight out of the box for me?..
How are you able to check clearances on the Rekluse clutch without pulling the side cover and not just the small clutch cover?

I'm about ready to go in and check my clearances (I anticipate that a bit of adjustment is needed,) so the small cover only would make life easier and minimize the risk of popping off the kickstart spring.

Think you meant the EFM clutch clearances. I never have to check them. When I push in on the screws that attach the sprung inner plate, it should move from 1/16" to 1/8". I ran a KX500 with this clutch for three years and never adjusted anything or replaced any clutch plates. The Husaberg EFM clutch releases so well that I can kick start it in gear!

Use a thrust guage instead of a feeler guage. You'll get a more accurate reading as well...
Now I have another problem. I don't know what a thrust gauge is. I've done a quick Google search, but confusion is the only thing replacing ignorance.

I don't suppose you have a link to somewhere that sells these, do you? Thanks! Just FYI, I am using the standard Rekluse Z-Start.

Probably because Rekluse doesn't make an autoclutch for the FE-550 and I've had good luck in the past with the EFM units. I've also read on this site about others who have spent a lot of hours trying to get their Recluse set up and the EFM worked perfect without any setup issues.

Ah OK pardon my ignorance.. i didn't realise that Revloc didnt do a Z-start for the 550/650... until now?

As for installation ease, my z-start installed and worked first time also,.. probably 'cos i pored over all the posts here first?..

But I got one of Gary's very early EFM autoclutches for my CRF450R about 3-4 years ago, and he had to send me 3 different clutch baskets & pressure plate assemblies before we got one that worked without chewing out the clutch basket.. lucky the CRF runs seperate oil for the gearbox.. otherwise I would have had some major engine problems as well. Although I give full credit to Gary for being extremely helpful in solving the problem.. but it took a few months..

As already indicated, Rekluse has and does make a Z-start that fits all Bergs. The distinction here is that Rekluse does not recommend using the Z-start on the larger 550 and 650 engines.

The RevLoc clutch has proven to be very successful with the 550 and 650 engines.

I just went back and checked the site again: http://www.rekluse.com/ and found no mention of a past, present or future Rekluse clutch for a Husaberg FE-550 or 650. The Revloc is good but much much more expensive. Garry at EFM did warn me about proper setup with a four stroke auto clutch, though. If you constantly lug the motor and allow the clutch to slip, you will destroy the fiber plates in short order. All of that material will plug up the oil passages with an unhappy result! :(

It sure is on the website. Black and white bold letters even. Here's how to get there since you can't find it.

Clink on the link in your post.

Go to Z start Pro for off road

Click on the black box at the top of the page that says "Models and Availability"

Read that the Husaberg "Pro" clutch for all models is due next week (7/3/07)

Hey, I missed the data sheet for the new clutch. Guess you'll have to shoot me! :2gunfire:

No biggie. I'm really leaning towards trying one of these clutches in my Husaberg. My problem is that I have been on my Husaberg only once since the ride in Moab in March. As hot as it is here now, plus my other committments, I won't be able to give a ride report until September!

I've been in conversation with Rekluse for the last couple of months, the new z-start has been working effectively on the test bikes. I should have the Rekluse on my 650 by next week and I'll update the forum with install and impressions.

Hi guys I thought the 650 didnt work to well with rekluse etc especially on dirt?

This is a new product. Refluse has two different auto clutches. The Z start and the Z start "Pro". The latter is what I am referring to in my previous post. It will be released next week and the manufacture does have PN for the 650.
