dutch clog decomp - a must

my new spring is the same as my old in length. looks like i've been sold the wrong one.

is this the correct part no?? 590.36.017.000

do you think that the decomp will wear fast due to not poking into the cam lobe enough???

you need the right part. no theories.... tell them you want the right one and no charges for wrecking the old one!

Hi Guys! me again .. and I just want to report that after getting the new deomp spring she is fixed!!!! To recap, the problem was always it struggled getting over TDC on the electric start and I tried all the mods - starter motor, dual battery cables, big battery, dutch clog decomp lever, valve settings dead on etc etc but it was always the same - a $5 spring later and it all works! But it was a fiddly install to get the right tension..... Thanks for all your help over the last year and I hope this helps some others on their personal pursuit of the untamed feathered fowl from canada!

you may still have coil binding with the new spring. i have machined the trench wider to let the spring spread. also deliberatley turned a spike in the spring to make it extra strong. have been going for a full 360d of pre-wind.

the photo is in husabutts gallery but in an album for me!

mule

here is a photo of two cams note that the far one has a huge shoulder that had to be machined down.

yeah, the top one is my cam.

do the cams change profile through out the years??

just thinking........... instead of machining the shoulder off my cam, can i fit a cam off an 04 onwards. i'm assuming a 04+ 550 cam would have more lift or duration?????????

on the end of the cam in very small letters and numbers is the code.

report back

thanks, i'll have a look soon......been flat out with work so haven't had a chance to work on me bike.

Fit`s older bikes?

Hej
Does the new decompmod fit to older bikes like -99 501?

RE: Fit`s older bikes?

yep

done one!

on some it goes straight on and on others you have to take 2mm off the shoulder just as previously discussed.

BTW

today i did another dutch clog and had another look at the binding spring.

i ripped straight into it and unwound the spring a complete circle and then fitted it. fantastic! still got the humpy shoulder, no binding and a decomp that works!

i cut off about 1" of spring wire and left the same kind of 1/2" as original.

sorted! thing flies back like a venus flytrap!

Thanks.

Taffy.
You are a living Haynes book and a little bit of Professor Balthazar.
I`ll try that next i open the engine, i`ts cheaper than the original decompdevice, 1/3 of the price here in Sweden.
By the way my old 501 it`s still working after 86 h since the total rebuild in november and easy to start after a change of the carb to a newer Dellorto from a Husaberg 600.

i'm pulling my engine down as it just started to puff a bit of smoke so i can finally get this decomp stuff sorted while i have it apart. a freshen up should see my starting improve as well. i've been worried about my valves too, i'm interested to see their condition.

Done the mod!

Hello!
I have done the decomp mod tonight, and it work`s perfekt.
Had a little problem with the spring beacuse the old one was not correclty mounted so i didn`t now how to get it together
But i found some pictures here at the Husaberg.org and it solved the problem.

Thank`s again Taffy.

Cheers with Ardbeg 10 y and a Danish beer
