2nd place is great but it ain't pretty to look at? Was Bobby Innes standing near the bike?

I'll take that as a thumbs up from DR.

Giant thumbs up! Jimmy had it first, but with all riders comments combined in average we drew 3rd........awesome. and ours was stock! Congrats Brett and Boss and the Fe550e team and the factory - great reviews! gonna sell a ton of 06 and 07 bikes off this DR story

"1st Husaberg FE550
I talked myself in and out of this choice so many times I can't remember, but when the prices came in I thought this bike was worth the extra $1,000 over the other bikes based solely on engine performance, and since the suspension and handling were straight up my alley, all I ended up doing was the small stuff to lightly customize it. I could do any kind of off-road racing on it, especially out West. Downs: Turning radius, worsened by the radiator grills (fixable), and the slightly heavy feel compared to smaller bikes." - Jimmy lewis

Since there is not a lot of aftermarket, wasn't the berg a basically stock bike competing with major modified bikes? If thats the case

OH YEAH BABY \:D/

ps
they frogot to mention

I hadn't gone to the DR site yet to get the final tally so thanks for posting brett.

The one comment that really caught my eye in the magazine (I just bought it yesterday) was in the What's hot section "Putting durability woes in the past". I believe it said something like that last year as well.

Of course, it goes without saying that having the "editor" of the magazine rate it first, not withstanding said editor is an extremely competent off road racer/rider.

GREAT JOB YOU GUYS!!

**** Burleson: "it vibrates a little too much for some of the testers."

DB states the 550 vibrates a bit much? :?
Compared to what? LOL

Truth be told it is likely balance drive gear noise being perceived as vibration.

Prior to becoming educated / acclimated Jimmy Lewis was once convinced a new Husaberg to be damaged goods and consequently parked it.

Perhaps a "noise" warning label is in order for these steeds. :D

All in all a stellar review!

Sincerely,
Dale

Last year it was the 450 and now the 650 and 550 are getting killer reviews.
Just a few years ago Husaberg would have been lucky to even be invited. They forgot to mention we had the best hospitality set up also.

I'm very impressed guys.

And Dirt Bike won't even test the bikes. I will never subscribe to Dirt Bike again and will be changing to Dirt Rider. One needs to be fair and give them all a chance. Also, great job on the set up guys! Didn't read anything negative about jetting or suspension woes.

Hey Brett, what's up with Dirt Bike anyhow??

I think it is really good.

First, the top 3 bikes are not Japanese. Ahah!

Second, many people will read this and realize that the FE550 was stock. Had this been a "stock bike 24-hour torture test" who could have won? Well.. Hmmm...

Third, some of these testers lowered their score because the bike is "different". In the mind of many people, this will resonate as a plus. Call it the Macintosh effect, whatever.

Fourth, it is said that reliability has improved. And this totally negates the #1 anti-Husaberg argument.

The only minus is the lack of aftermarket parts, like a desert tank and we can only wish that Mr Acerbis or Clarke will read this article and think "hmmm... I smell a market..."

As far as aftermarket parts, they are not right because many KTM parts fit this bike, and that most of the Husaberg-specific parts are carried by the KTM network. Also this bike does not need a lot of aftermarket part. It is not, unlike a WRF (tell me about it) a work in progress.

I am going to go buy Dirt Rider and send a subscription form.

I find it ironic that a negative is that Husaberg lacks aftermarket parts while finishing on the podium in an "aftermarket" endurance/performance test in stock form.

A lot of work and effort put in by the Boss, Brett, Fryguy and Hairfarm. Team DR 24hr has put up 2 podium finishes in 2 years, surrounding by the worlds best. Great job guys.

Hmmmmm.....
Stock FE550 goes toe to toe with macked out after market bikes. The point I just made to my brother you don't need to drop $1500.00 into the Bergs after you buy one. Awesome I can hardly wait for my issue to arrive BTW I've always thought Dirt Rider was broader based and more objective than Dirt Bike

Well, I started riding KTMs in '78, Bergs in 92. Soon, the local riding area will be blue and yellow instead of orange. Can I handle it. or will I switch to a TM, or maybe a Highlander? Does my heart good to see Husaberg get some positive press, no matter the wrinkle it causes in the time/space continuim.

Buzzard I do not see that happening. KTM will not let Husaberg take off like that. They own the brand after all...

Why did this get moved to the Race & Ride forum? I thought this was more for reports about what people did on the weekend rather than headline news.

Uhh...that's what I thought too :)

SuperMotoTeam, Are you the Husaberg rep? If I'm addressing the right guy, why won't Dirt Bike test Husabergs anymore?

Agreed, a bang up job by the boys. Imagine what the 'berg would have done with another $5000 worth the goodies (price of many of the other bikes was $14,000).

$5000 to add what, exactly?

Besides dual-sporting parts if you want to street legalized it, beefier barkbustsers and glide plate for rocky or woods, what does the bike need that is not a gadget? It's about $500 for the DS parts, $100 for for the plate and $50 for the BBs, total $650 tax and shipping included.

I was saying that for $5,000 the 'berg would have won the overall, not just best stock bike.
I also beleive that hbg sent the right people and bike.
