Dialing in my 04 FS450

OTTMH you have to open up the bellmouth a bit so that it goes over the screw when fitting. I have them on a 39 mk1 on my 98 and my 07 650 mk2.

I reckon you should just stop messing around and buy yourself a Lineaweaver jet kit - it might be a bit of an investment but it is plug and play.

And just to put the cat amongst the pigeons a bit, I suspect you could go larger on the pilot while reducing the main even down to 150, but what would I know.

The problem with the 'mericans is the excess of hot air that needs to be dealt with    (I wonder who's gonna get that?)

All the best,
Simon

Taffy you mean the fcr slowair screw set from sudco

I´ve downloaded the Sudco-catalog (52MB :( ), but did´nt find the set;
does anybody have the partnumber or the pagenumber in the catalog?

Quick update:
On the track and trail the bike runs great, no more backfiring on decel and great power.
The only thing I've notice is that warm starting can be problematic. It restarts just fine at the track after a 15 min session and a 15min break.
But... if I stall/drop it on the trail (which happens a lot) it can be really hard starting, resulting in annoyed riding buddies and a lot of frustration on my part if I'm not near a decent downhill for a bump start.
I don't want to mess up a good thing here as the jetting change so far has been very successful, so any guidance is much appreciated!

Have you ever tried the "hot start button" on the trail?

Bad or hard to restart when hot is a sign of over richness, how have you jetted the carb.

Sparks.

what needle are you running now?

you want help but you haven't told us "fanny adams!"

Taffy

Yes, I have tried the hotstart button, but did not notice any difference. I was hoping to go riding more today but it didn't happen :(
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I noted the current settings on the previous page ;)
Adjustable Idle Jet from sudco
OCDMS needle - 2nd position
155 main
Fuel screw 2 turns out (for now)

from

Current jetting specs are bone stock:
178 main jet
40 idle jet
obdvt needle
clip in 2nd position from top
85 starting jet
200 main air jet
100 idle air jet
fuel screw 2.5 turns out

to

Adjustable Idle Jet from sudco

still need your PJ size and although you are to be congratulaterd on fitting the PAS you still haven't told us how many turns out it is positioned!

now maybe sparks can help me here but my records show that the lineaweaver needle is in between the N and the P on the straight which is very rich. this could be your problem.

i ordered a special off dale with anS-T straight and it didn't work first time out coz i had a meeting coming up. since then i've gone to C1 from C4 and also MJ is down from 155 to 145 which means all in all that the idle juice is leaner than ever. i reckon i could have done with an S straight but there you go! that's life! i can machine a few microns off my spare lineaweaver and try it but essentially there is your problem!

you could modify your hot start for 'little air' or 'lots of air'!!!!!!!

Taffy

Doh!
The PAS is turned out a little less than 1/2 of a turn, trying to get it close to 60 as suggested.
Isn't the Pilot Jet the same as the Starting Jet? At least thats what its called in my service manual...
In any case, its an 85

no shawn it isn't the same!

the starter jet is one side and is the 85 you talk of and on the other, right down the bottom, is the pilot jet!

numbers from 35 to 45 plus are usual.

Hi taffy,

Just measured Dales needle against the DVR the straight of Dales needle is the same (R) where as the taper doesn't start for another 5mm against the DVR.
Did I say I have a problem can't remember but I can't think of one.
But I am running the DMS not Dales needle.

Shawn if you are running the stock PJ this could be 40 to 45 then your PAS will be a little on the rich side, I'm running a 35 PJ with the PAS just under .5 of a turn out.

Regards

Sparks.

with the R needle stuffed in the hole on C1 it means that the needle straight is effectively one letter up. so my N-P becomes a P-Q but still short of an R or a S which i believe to be spot on. also it makes the S-T he sent me a T-U which isn't so good!

Ok, in my shop manual that is called the 'idling jet'.
Names aside, its a 40 :)

I'll try adjusting the PAS so that its running a bit leaner, somewhere between 1/4 and 3/8 of a turn out.

Thanks!

Shawn if you have adjusted the PAS by screwing it in then you are riching up the in going mixture.
Best thing to do is find out exactly what size PJ you are running and take it from there.

I am running same needle as you on the same setting with a 35PJ and the PAS is just under 1/2 a turn out.
The fuel screw under the carb is out 1 3/4 turns. These settings work really well on my engine.
My engine is a 550 04.
