Taffy:

You wrote in some earlier thread about using a Delo 400 equivalent available in the UK. Which one would that be? Up here some people are using Agro.

Also I throw this question to the community:
Doesn´t the use of an alkaline diesel motor oil with low-(near zero)-sulphur gasoline fuel cause any side-effects? I learned in school (I was going to be a Maritime Engineer) that if you use an oil meant for high-sulfur heavy fuel oil with, say a "low-sulfur" diesel fuel, you will end up with soapy deposits in the system. The same would seem to apply in this case? It´s the same chemistry though to a lesser degree.
(The reason for diesel motor oil to be alkaline is to prevent corrosion from sulphuric acidity/acid.)

It is just a thought, and probably not an issue with these frequent oil changes, but I wouldn´t dream of putting it in an everyday gasoline car engine. Until someone proves me wrong...

i don't think i ever found a worthy replacement. i tried every web site and avenue i could. to be honest i can do every search under the sun, find nothing. my computer geek mate does one and says after 20 seconds; "well, you've got a choice of 4....".

i wish you good luck...

Here´s the story on Chevron Delo 400 in Europe:
It is currently only available in Greece and Russia and is being manufactured in Greece. No use to most of us over here.
However, manufacturing in Greece will be discontinued and it will then be imported for sale throughout Europe. This will happen in about a year or so according to ChevronTexaco Swedish HQ.
I got this right from the horse´s mouth. Not a second hand rumour.
The closest Texaco branded oil would be Ursa Super TD, which is made from a base oil not as good as that of Delo 400.

Regarding alkalinity it turns out that Delo 400 is very alkaline and meant to stay very long swimming in sulfur blow-by and soot. I asked about potential problems with gasoline engines, and there has been some cylinder wall polishing in the past, but mostly with older formulations that are currently being phased out. (Since polishing is only an issue with cast iron bores, we don´t have to worry?). To be 100% sure if an oil is compatible with gasoline engines, look for ACEA Axx certification (Delo 400 and other truck oils are not, however) and avoid oils labeled "energy conserving" containing molybden disulfides as this will make a wet clutch slip.
Again, this info is from a tribology specialist at ChevronTexaco.
It should also be said that he felt that a premium synthetic oil would be better suited for a motorcycle.

As far as alternatives, Husaberg factory team uses Motorex Cobra which is also a heavy truck oil. Hard to find. Even hard to find specs on it.
That bit I got from Husaberg Scandinavia.

I hope this will help finding alternatives until Delo is released, or maybe in helping to find a good permanent, inexpensive alternative to racing oils.

Oil, it's a djungle out there. Will chevron delo 400 produced in one place be the same stuff as delo 400 produced in another? I would not bet on it. Anyway, here is a list of a few oils that are supposed to be used in diesel and petrol engines with or without turbo and with heavy duty long drain properties. They may be worth checking out. Which ones have you been looking at?, Taffy.
Q8 T 730 Ultra High Performance Diesel Engine Lubricant 15W-40
Mobil Delvac 1300 Super Motor Oil 15W-40
Shell ROTELLA T Multigrade SAE 15W-40
BP VANELLUS C3 MULTIGRADE 15W-40
(Texaco Ursa 15W-40)
(Agrol Turbo Super 15W-40)
(Total RUBIA 4400 15W/40)
I'm still using what the manual says, 5W-50 synthetic API oil, but it is expensive to say the least.

Some clarification is needed. I should have written "imported from the US and sold throughout Europe". So, in a year or so we should have the same stuff here!
