cush drive do or don't...

I just got a mail from haan this morning telling me there hubs do'nt work on other rims because of the angle/length of the spokes and he is trying to sell me a complete wheel with cush drive wich I will certanly not...

I mean I have the strongest lightest wheels on my bike would be stupid to go back to a standard wheel that probaby even uses a tube inside

In my email to alpina they did say they can use a stock hub on them
but it is not cheap because I have to pay shipping to italy where they build the wheels + 140€ rebuild + another 100 shipping because they would send the wheels from factory to distributor and than to me so 2x50€....
That's about 300€ for shipping and work only without cost of a hub:rolleyes:

If they can use stock hub I am pretty sure they can use other non oem cush hubs to with custom spoke but before buying one I would ask them (alpina) to be sure :p

Hmmm, they told me the contrary ..
Matthias Hartl (from HArtl racing, distributor of alpina raggi for germany: Exlusive Speichenräder für Supermoto, Motocross und Streetbikes - alpinaraggi.de) who is very helpfull and kindly replys to emails 24/7
answered me, after double checking: "no problem to use oem front hub, but we don't do rear hub with cush drive"

You asked to alpina raggi italy?? 300euros shipping would be fine with me, if I was sure to get my OEM hubs laced up.
But so far, Matthias, that I mentioned above, and who dealt with my alpina wheels, appeared to be very knowledgeable and accurate, giving reliable and accurate infos ( on chain clerarance, tyres etc.. he has prep'ed many bergs for racing on top of being alpina importer)

Please let me know in case you get confirmation from italy..
On my side, perhaps I'll just get ktm OEM rims (16.5 and 5" rear), at least, I'll be sure they'll fit my hubs, and then I will make them tubeless myself.. (16.5 front 5" rear rims from factory aren't), will be cheaper.

This is the contact link I am using talking to a guy named Karl
He also said alpina does not do cush hubs but they can use other hubs than the ones they use if you send them to them...

Alpina is making it realy easy for me I asked about installing other aftermarket hubs.
And got a reply saying they will only install oem cush hubs because of reliability issues with other aftermarket cush hubs.
I am on my phone now will copy and paste details from email later when I get home.

.................dont play in the same league....:))))))
this DRC680 is simply amazing!!! gorgeous, handcrafted, heartcrafted, wow.
Is it what you get when you combine patience, passion, skills, tools and creative thinking?

How is riding it?? how light is it? was in stockholm a month ago, should have stopped by,
and begged you for a ride! one can dream! :-D

Are the cush thick enough this way to be efficient? Out of what did you make them?

Hi Tom

Alpina will only build with OEM hubs now because of the reliability problems with other hub manufacturers

The problem is that the spokes are different lengths between your kite hubs and OEM hubs

This means new spokes would be required to assemble the cush drive hub

assembly would be around €70 and new spokes are €80

Then there are the shipping costs at around €80

Total would be €230 approx

Thats the mail.

Yes If I had the skill/tools needed to make something work on my own I would but I do'nt :p
I watched most of them build movies from mister c and very impressed and a bit jeaulous;)

Thanks for the kind words!
Hm, maybe a combination of being stubborn, having an understanding wife and a nice workshop?

Very fun and nimble to ride. Quite a challenge sometimes with lots of engine braking and tons of grunt.

The cush drive works ok. Polyurethane 92 Shore, material used for pushing out the product of a punching tool.

Have a look at the motomox cash drive sprocket on the motomox site motomox.co.nz they have only just been released after over a year of hard testing in the hash South Island of New Zealand. They also sell the replacement urethane bushes but sofa are unable to give change intervals on these as they have lasted Inger than the testing period. The chain ring is available in several sizes that are interchangeable so you can tune your ratio to the environment your riding. Have a look see if they are of use to anyone reading this thread, on motomox.co.nz
I am no way involved with the manufacturer just excited by this product that has been made with Husaberg, KTM and Beta in mind, I will be buying one myself. And are much cheaper that a rear cash hub pluck wheel building.
