conical springs - time for red alert?

it could be possible if the spring tool is small enough to fit with the engine in the bike. but it isn't that much work removing the head. i thought of doing the same but the work in fabricating the plug/air-hose + the spring-tool i think takes longer than removing the head.

thing is the valves can tulip so that alone is worth eyeing over. then you have the fact that the head must be machined on the 2001-2003 heads and the rocker covers on certainly all the 2001-2008 engines i have seen need a tickle. admittedly i think i've only seen up to a single 2006. so much to lkearn i guess...

to Parsko - Luke,

Unfortunately I don't have the figures you asked forbut I do have the Partnumbers for the new 2009 springs: it's a KTM partnumber. 78036028000 for the intake, 78036029000 for the exhaust.
The pré 2009 models have a different part # , same for both intake and exhaust: 59436028044 but also a KTM number

Perhaps with the partnumber you will be able to find the details about diameter, material and so on.

thanks,
Adriaan

Thanks dustbite.

I always seem to forget that Husabergs are not Hondas. Many of the parts on other bikes are designed to last forever, while we need to replace them after 150hours! That is the price we pay being Husaberg owners.

Do the KTM's have conical springs? Are they having issues?

Also, I'm not sure we'll be able to back out diameters from the part number. I'd guess they are arbitrary. But, that does show that they (Husaberg/KTM) recognize that a different spring is necessary. It may possibly solve the problem. Please keep us posted!
