People always think mineral oil = harmless and DOT Brake fluid = evil, not the case at all. Mineral Oil will also damage certain materials, just different ones. Natural Rubber O-rings are not a good idea with mineral oil because they swell. Mineral oil is also incompatible with EPDM synthetic rubber seals (which to my knowledge is one of the main reasons that some brake manufacturers choose DOT fluid over mineral oil).
Yes unless you can tell what rubber the manufacture used when making the brake components, always use what they say. I would say only use what the manual says in all years. Also never swap years on seals unless you are sure as a brake failure is a serious issue. If ya cant stop then don't start....
I remember know that I was surprised to see that my friends 2014 350 had dot fluid for clutch as the 70 degrees use mineral. But much more convenient that they made both use the same fluid!
