Im wondering if anyone can tell me why this is happening and if its common?

Since i brought the bike new and purchased a new rear 48 tooth sprocket and DID o-ring chain and put the on before i rode it.
But the chain has always seemed to rub on the frame ,,,Its now taking big chunk out of the shock mud guard.
Theres also a bolt on the chain guide (as you can see in pic) that has worn a massive groove in my rear sprocket.
Even with chain tensioned properly it still seems to jump around

Could this be the aluminium sprocket flexing?

1300km's total

any advice as what to do would be good. cheers

I believe standard fitment should be an X, not the wider O ring chain.

Which is irrelevant anyway, as the X ring on my bike rubs the frame too, and chews into the shock protector flap .But thats small potatoes compared to my current crankshaft dilemna :lol:

Re sprocket wear- it is either misaligned in swingarm ( dont trust the alignment marks, measure from swingarm pivot to axle centreline on both sides)

Or you have smacked a rock/stump/ other bike and bent the alloy support for the rear chain gaurd.
 
I would also shorten the bolt that is cutting into the sprocket.

yep, wheel out of alignment and the split link is the bit that's causing the damage. happens to us all...

Taffy do you think that a riveted chain (endless) instead of using a split link
will help?

What is the best way to make sure the wheel is straight?
 
chain adjustment
lay chest on seat coming from the left. compress suspension using right hand to pull yourself down to the SA. left hand checks if there is anyway that the chain can touch the rubber strip under the SA.

wheel alignment
remove the rear tyre. re-fi the rear wheel alone. straighten both wheels with the help of a second person hold string aginst the rear wheel rim at 7 o clock, run the string by the front rim at 5 o'clock and the string should just miss the front tyre by 10mm down it's side.

do the same on the other side. i bet the string leads into the front tyre one side and away from it on the other.

no need to run a soft link. i would however consider having the link on the inside face of thew chain.

don't worry, the chain never gives in!
