Did those valves have a hardened tip, or are they just plain stainless? So are they good to just machine off and use as is?

The hardened end is not a seperate tip it's heated and quenched so the hardening runs down the stem far enough that a reasonable amount still remains

Spanners have done more hours than mine. At the time I thought I would try it then If they needed to be harder I would heat the tip and quench it

Not as involved as what I've been doing to the gearboxes

What size valves are those Fereas? I want to put some 32 and 37 in one of my heads, but I'm concerned about the valve seats. I'm thinking I should have larger seats for those, but I'm also afraid of ruining the head if the shop cuts through into the waterjacket. Maybe I should just go with 31 and 36, as I recall you saying they are good on the standard seat?

For what's worth I am gathering parts for my rebuild. Just very slowly. And I had shop replace valve seats to accept the valves 33mm and 38mm that I bought from kibble white. No problems. Others put that size too without any problems. According to Dr.c this is about the biggest valves that go right in with matching seats. I'd agree with that.
