I have a 2005 550FE. It's done about 400km. I know the weep hole leak is a problem on earlier models, but i thought they fixed it on 05 models. To date the dealer has fitted 4x shaft seals, 2x bearings, 1x clutch cover plate. The problems is still not fixed. Any thoughts or should i just get used to it
Thanks

aha oil

pay special attention to the tiny o' ring on the shaft .

replace it and give it a good grease up .

and when the cover is fitted back on , be gentle and make sure
it is fitted square .

i had dramas with oil leaks and it was only when i paid extra
attention to this o' ring that the weep hole nightmare ended.

this fellow requires assistance , does anybody have any ideas .

hi there, I understand some shafts in earlier years had machining quality problems and replacing the shaft fixed that. you could see the problem as it had a groove for what looked like fitting an o ring, but one was not to be fitted there.

Putting that aside as that is probably not your problem, note as mentioned in the history what is coming out. If it is oil, just take care when fitting. If it is water then it is doinng its job. Water sometimes looks like oil because dirt crc and other things that have got up there come out with the water.

When the motor gets hot it lets the water out there before letting it get through to the oil so do not idle for more than a minute per the manual. Those that have owned non radiator bikes and look at maps while the engine idles will find this happening.

Water is not a problem when motor hot, oil is annoying if any more than a trickle when you the motor is hot.

If the new shaft does not fix it check the o ring. If really annoying try a smaller bat fatter o ring, that when stretched has the same look as the oem ring. This extra tought approach may work.

i tried a fatter o'ring ,it was only marginally bigger . it would not fit .

it seems only the oem will slot firmly into the bearing , in most cases the o'ring needs to be well greased and new condition .

it must be a shaft related problem in this case .

gday im a berg virgin, ive just started an affair with a swedish 06 fe550 with now only 1700ks. she already had oring replaced on waterpump 800ks ago. but yet again she weeping and also from the kickstart shaft as well. is this some thing i have to live with or what?

Weep Hole sux man

05 Fe650 I have just got is leaking as well done 2000kms(not happy)

06 Fe650 that my mate just got leaking as well done 2000kms not happy

Seems know one in Australia can fix them. I took my 02 in twice to dealer to fix and it just kept leaking so i have left it for the past year and rode it with the wheephole leak. Bought the 05 and thought nah it wont have the same issues well low and behold guess what starts weeping.

I would say it is unfixable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some one should post fix with high Def pics and howto so we can show dealers how to fix it properly.

I was tierd of the oil leak so I put in a sealed bearing typ 2RS and it has stop leak .
The bearing on the other side is of the axel is sealed.
Palm

Fe600racer may on to something,it may be a heat related problem.Kelsow had a leak,we replaced the seals and as far as I know it never recurred and he is the only one in this area(climate very Swede like).

Hi there, I hate oil leaks, but the weap hole is meant to weap. It is to stop hot water going past the o rings into the oil and then you have problems (ie oil and water). So when hte water is hot and goes past the first o-ring before it goes past further into the oil it flows out the weap hole channel and out the hole. Oil should not come out, but may when really hot. It also flows into that channel and out.

The weap hole is actually good because it is telliing you the motor is too hot and that heat will cause other problems you may not see for a while. For example on the older bikes the sem would get damaged and this heat does not help the follower bearing iether.

You must ensure the o rings are placed correctly and observe the bearing also.

Next thing is to clean the channel and then go riding. Every now and then look down particularly when you first stop somewhere. Then as you have the motor idling waiting for all those in front to go through that creek they do not want to go through, or queing up to ride through a huge mud hole with people all of over the place etc, have another look down and if it weaps then it is just because the motor is getting hot and the whole is working as it should. If it is a hot day and you idle too long the radiator cap will blow.

Check when it weaps?

As for the kick start weaping. Check installed correctly and clean. It could be the bush may be damaged and I understand this bush may have changed on later models. You could try having this replaced under warranty and be careful when pushing the case over the shaft to avoid any scratching etc.

good luck

So the 3 bergs we have all have heat issues. Sorry i dont believe it. To coincidental for me.

Consider this please gentlemen:

KTM RFS and Husaberg use exactly the same water pump/oil seals.

There are plenty of 05/06 RFSs out there that cant hold oil or water.
Ditto for Husabergs.

It seems that both marques that utilise a common part share a common problem related to that part.

If I had the problem, I would be utilising seals produced by a different manafacturer to eliminite the seals as a cause.

I am involved in mass production of mould based products, and realise the enormous scope for potential screw ups: screw ups that have passed all relevant QC tests in production and are not revealed until end user utilisisation.

I know a guy with an 06 RFS 525 who had major issues with water loss out the weep hole- I told him the above, havent heard anymore since.......

All is perfect, has never leaked a single drop again.
