I am thinking of running either amsoil 20w50 or motul 5300 semisynthetic. what's better! I will be riding on the streets 100% (20%) hard. should I change my oil every 8-10 hrs or by running amsoil are the oil change intervals pushed back. I know on a car with amsoil you can go more than 20,000km's per oil change so on a bike can you go every 15-20 hrs.or is it better to just change it every 10hrs.

Follow the bike's manual regarding oil changer intervals... You could always send an oil sample to an analyzer to see how it is holding up...

Automotive engines are basically the same as Bike engines ?
Nope - whole different species !

In Automotive engines, all of the important bearings are "plain" or "Plane" which working with oil become Hydrodynamic bearings - that more or less "surf' on an oil film.

InThe Berg engine and most all dirt bikes, rolling elements are used as all of the important bearings, with Ball, roller and needle used for simplified oiling

The Hydrodynamic bearings are insensitive to dust size grit and surf right over it, as the oil film is thicker than dust

Rolling elements however mash the minimal oil film down to about nothing and roll right in to the grit, also water in the oil has strong actions at low-low quantitys

The Bergeist seems to believe that by draining out our oil after each ride (or so) we extend the life of our two wheeled stallions.
I for one buy stupidly expensive Motul 300V 5w-40, and save what I drain, when I've enough - into the car it goes !

The oil filters available to us will catch the big stuff - the chunks, not the dust size grit, just down to 35 Microns.
Thats ok as we have a minimal sized oil pump - not intended to push oil though tiny tiny holes. SO we drain.

Here an article check-out figures 1 and 2

.

I think I might try to make a 80 micron filter from a scrap one I have at work. That would prolong the life of the bearings and keep the oil cleaner.

I have a stainless filter already. but if I can make a finer filter it would keep the oil grit free. I have an ultrasonic cleaner at work so cleaning metal filters is'nt a problem for me.
