99 FE501 vs 03 FE501E

Considering transferring my SM parts from a 99 501 to an 03 501 electric start. Are there any good advantages to the motor design in the 03 compared to the 99? Mostly concerned about race reliability and rebuild availability. Additional advantage to the 03 - FCR carb.

On 03 is still Dellorto PHM40, from 04 they are supplied with Keihin FCR.

If I'm not mistaken the diameter of the front wheel axle is different, -03 got a slightly larger diameter axle.
But if you use your old forks (if they fit the -03 triple clamps...) that won't be a problem.

But then again I might be wrong so. :mrgreen:
