I did a thread search and I'm sure it has been covered, but I couldn't find it. I'm looking for a little advice. I just came across a good deal on a 2010 450 involving a trade for one of my bikes. I would prefer to buy a 570 on the always popular viewpoint that bigger is better, but this is saving me a ton of $. I would like to hear some impressions of both bikes. The bike will be ridden primarily by my 21 year old son. He's 6'4" 200 lbs and has a about 5 years riding experience. He's been using my KTM 950se and is comfortable on it. We are mostly riding fire roads with some limited road use. I will jump on it once in a while, and I'm pretty big. 6'0" and 250lbs. Btw this 450 is currently tagged and I anticipate no problems tagging it in PA. I know there are some advantages in the 2011 570, but I don't see a problem regarding the 2010 450 being street legal here. Any thoughts? Thanks...

Go for the 450. I just traded my 07 Husqvarna TE610 for an 09 FE450. The 450 has plenty of power....quite a bit more the the TE610. I have yet to play with the ignition map switch...has enough power for me in the standard setting. I am about 240 in all my gear and it hauls my fat arse around with power to spare. I would bet the 450 would at least keep up to your 950se off the start. Save your money for add-ons like rad guards, map switch, rad fan, barkbusters....oh, and you will burn through rear tires pretty quick too!

Well I just traded in my 09 FE570 for a 2010 FX450, I haven't ridden the new bike just yet but I'll be able to give you a pretty good comparison of the two by the end of the up coming weekend. The 570 was a great bike and very unintemidating to ride if you didn't twist the throttle past half way. But when you did; look out that thing moves! For technical riding I would put the bike in the soft ignition mode and I also had a G2 throttle cam on it which helped out alot!
I would say that if you're saving alot then get the 450, you could always put a big bore kit in it down the road when it's time to freshen up the motor.

Thanks for the feedback. I was under the impression the 570 has much more low end torque than the 450. i just don't want to end up with a bike that can't power it's way around on a fun ride without running through the gearbox like a 125. I also wanted the added displacement for the back roads we're on about 25% of the time, but I think the 450 might be adequate there. The bike I'm looking at already has an FMF muffler, map switch, fan, and many other bits and pieces, so I'm a little ahead to begin with as far as accessories.

The 570 definitly has more torque but it's not like the 450 doesn't have enough to get you around with any troubles. I had a Rekluse Pro in my 570 and ran 13/50 gearing and unless I was starting out on a really steep hill I wouldn't even use 1st gear to start off. I checked my clutch friction and drive plates all the time and they didn't show any premature wear from doing that either. The bike just has gobs of torque but at the same time it's not like the 450 is a 125 when it comes to torque too.
If they were within a couple hundred of each other I would say get the 570 for trail riding, but if you're talking about $500 or more I'd say you'll be more then happy with the 450.
I traded because the FX450 will be a little better of a race bike for me.
Either way you'll be really happy with what ever bike you get!!
And make sure to post up some pics when you finally get the beast!

The Berg has smaller ergos than the ktms. I am 6'4" and have placed risers, tall bars , low pegs etc.. and still am a little cramped on the Berg. The KTM exc and other models fit tall people so well it is hard to move away from them. Your son is young so it may no bother him much. There will be a big difference from the SE though.

Hey mate I had the same question before i purchased my fe 570 2010. I have done a little over 1000k's now and the bike is perfect. The power of the 570 is awesome but the fuel injection makes it very smooth and the power becomes useable but still mean to put a smile on your face for hours after. I think after riding the 570 i would have been disappointed on the 450.

I honestly don't think you could be disappointed with either of these bikes. They both have great power but the 570 just has more of it. If you were going to just ride mostly trails and some more open stuff or maybe dualsport it then definetly get the 570. For me; racing the 570 just got to be a little too much, so I decided to trade it in for a FX450. I think I'll be happier with a little less power and the close ratio gear box and CC forks.
But lets be honest, most of us probably can't even fully use the power the 390 puts out.

My opinion is biased as I have a 570 and think it's beyond perfect, but take time to read all the magazine articles and tests on the bikes. Almost without exception, they say that even though the 570 has mobs of grunt, is is easier to ride than the 450

Both bikes will serve you well, so at the end of the day its all down to saving some bucks or going for the grunt ! Either way ...enjoy your ride.

I have an 2006 TE610 with aftermarket pipe - these Huskys put out 52+HP, so is the FE450 really more powerful? I know the Husky is alot heavier.

I don't think it really matters how much HP it puts out, it's how it puts that power to the ground, and the Berg "Arguably" does it better than the rest with it's centre of gravity due to design.

450 will do any job perfect.

570 is the bike to buy. The only problem I can see with the 570 over the 450 is when you are travelling at a fairly fast pace the 570 is more inclined to throw you off if you accidently twist the throttle too much. Some say the 390/450 is less tiring to ride but I just cant get behind where they are going. Just buy the 570 and don't twist the throttle too much.
The 570 is simply the best “current” woods bike in the world to ride, no questions asked.

I would agree with pretty much everything Davo said. Like I mentioned before my 570 was an awesome trail bike and there's a reason it was picked as dirt bike of the year two years in arow. But at race pace I find it would just get me into a little trouble when I got tired because it has some much grunt and if you twist the throttle at the wrong time you better hope it's not pointed at a tree because it's going where ever it's pointed and in a hurry!

I thank you for all the input. I'm gonna try the 450. This bike is new (150mi) and has some nice accessories. I'm trading a bike I'm not using, so it's a very good value for me. If we don't like it I'll trade it against a 570 if/ when that day comes.. Thanks again. I'm sure I'll be on here more often in the coming year.

I thanks you all again. I picked up our 2010 450 the other day. I had a chance to ride a few miles before I had to leave town for a few days. I have been riding for 45 years now, and have owned close to 100 bikes. I have to say that just a few miles on this bike and I'm very impressed with it. I understand why the riders on this forum have so many positive comments. The bike is pretty nice s is, but I'm considering a few add ons: rekluse clutch, an aftermarket skid plate, and some additional fuel capacity. I need to add DOT tires for a PA inspection. If anybody has any feedback on a good set of versatile DOT legal fire road/ off road tires I'd appreciate it. Thanks again

I have a Rekluse Pro on my FX450 that came off of my FE570 that I traded in. And I love it, I was actually thinking about selling my Pro to get the new Core EXP.

Most of the guys around where I live and ride will use Dunlop 606 rear with a Pirelli MT21 front. If I hadn't gotten rid of my 570 I was going to try out some Pirelli Scorpion Pro DOT tires front and rear.

I bought my 570 with the intention of using it as a dualsport (mine was plated) and I was going to keep my 250xcw for trail riding. Well I lent my friend my KTM and he seized the motor, and it took 3months for at the parts to come in and the work to be done. In that time I started riding the 570 for all my regular riding and really started to love the bike for all the riding I did.
So I decided to sell the KTM to my buddy while I could still get some good money for it. At the same time I started to race our local hare scrambles and REALLY had fun doing that. And as it turned out the guys I bought my 570 from had a 10 FX450 that the owner was going to race in our local Mototard series. He did one race and didn't race the rest of the series. The bike only had about 5hrs on it and was in mint condition and came with all new plastics, rims and a whole lot of cool blue parts! So I started talking to him and we made the deal. I traded him straight across for my bike. It would be an easy sale for them because the bike was plated.
I was going to change out the 19" rear tire for an 18" but after riding it I really liked the way the bike turned with the 19" and alot of the pro's are going back to 19's too. I run bib mousses so I'm not worried about getting pinch flats with the 19". Which is one of the down sides of a 19" for offroad riding. Overall I love the FX450 compared to the FE570. The 570 still had more power but power isn't everything.
