3L of engine oil in a Husaberg 2008!!!

Small update

Just a small update here. So I've chosen to go with the larger filter. Go big or go home... It is directly off Carrier reefer includind 90 degree gracket I think. On ebay housing is sold for duramax 1 micron fuel filter. Today I cut out back inner fender. Made access to remove/install. It's needed to make it fit. Or jamm it in there! Now biggest hurdle will be making/building/fabricating a bracket from adequate strength matal to glue it onto frame. To that bracket the 90 degree will be bolted on. Inner fender will have heavy inner tire rubber like from a tractor ,pocket on velcro. After bracket is glued to frame next will be assembly hoses, check valves and fittings. Alert fellas!!! Stainless steel filters are only good for 35 micron!!!! Spin on filter you can have all the way to 1 micron or 3,5,7,10 and possibly more! I'll go with 5 micron and bumped oil pressure by something like 12-15 psi over stock.

Smaller filter from Thermo King reefer doesn't require inner fender cut out. Smaller will be between 750ml and 1L l think. Larger over 1L easy. Larger will have more filter sizes and micron choices.

Update here, not much to update really. Bad winter here and don't have heated shop. Days short and work busy. I'm only in the process of cutting out bracket that I'll glue to the frame with special body shop glue that they use to glue door skin on car doors. To this custom bracket I'll then bolt another bracket and then filter housing. I didn't want to weld it to the frame and wanted to reinforce frame to prevent possibility of cracks from vibrations when offroadin.

Slow progress.

Today I finished making/febricating a bracket that will reinforce frame and provide a secure platform to bolt a bracket with a filter. I cut it out of a plate of steel about 3.5mm thick, possibly slight overkill but hey better a little more than not enough.First cut out was no good. Had to add some more area to it. Next I'll have to glue it or epoxy it to the frame. Then the rest. Too cold here now for epoxy or glue to work. I don't think wife would want bike in the basement. But I just might try it. Basement is fully finished.

Just a thought ...would it be beneficial to use a diesel fuel filter housing like https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/NISSAN-PA...196339?hash=item2a9f5b7073:g:AIMAAOSwuShae~uS for ease of priming at oil change

Im my humble opinion, not really. For a few reasons. 1 u need check valves anyway so lines would hold oil even when filter removed, o e check valve per line. 2 I'd be filling filter before installing anyway. 3 this filter head might limit your choices/selection of filters available to u. Having said all that, u probably could use it if u want to. Just plum it correctly with check valves.
 
I have update here boys. When temperature finally came up after winter I removed paint off the frame with wire wheel. Then roughened area with grinder for better glue adhesion. Glued bracket on that is the onlypart that l have fabricated. Next installed and adjusted 90 degree filter housing and filter to clear the spring, cut out proper shape rubber from old farm tractor tire inner tube. Installed that. Happy with how it fits. Works good.last I went to hydraulic commercial supply store and got hoses made. 3/8" diameter and all fittings same size 3/8. Installed original filter on custom filter cover and assembled all fittings. I have two check valves on external filter head. Everything fits and looks good. There is room for improvements. Next time I'll order 3/8 size check valves that'll screw directly into filter housing without the need for adapters. This time l used 1/4 npt check valves. This system added approximately 1L more engine oil. Old oil drained from before mod is in pomegranate juice bottle. Gallon jug was full of oil and you see how much I put in to fill my modded system. To fill it up l had top plugs removed and pumped oil in untill started coming out of the top, installed plugs and filled up engine untill full in glass window. Started and warmed up. Felt hoses and filter get warmer and warmer, indicating oil flowing through. Sunday going for the ride! Next mod will be wet ignition. That's probably additional 1L engine oil. The filter head that l used is from Carrier reefer unit, but it is also the same as guys are installing on diesel pickups and then install8ng 1 micron fuel filters for superior filtration. This is very popular thread type giving us lots of different filter choices. Ennoy the pictures. For added security l also put in two screws 5mm stainless steel and bolted my bracket to bike frame reinforcement bracket in that area.

3L engine oil in my Husaberg. More pictures

Some more pictures. Whole at it I also installed rad fan. From some used Jap road bike. Kawa probably. Still need to hook up wiring.

Next will be oil pressure gauge and I'll bump up oil pressure. I'm thinking to increase by 12 to 15 psi over current. Whatever it is. After that wet ignition. That should bring my oil capacity to about 3L my goal.
 
It works good!

Sunday went for drive. Works perfectly. Just need to find and correct small oil leak somewhere. Over 2hours ride and engine sounds normal. On the road it felt exactly the same as before.

I'm running 5 micron filter now. Installed new off the shelf 2008 650 engine. System works like factory built. Still haven't done wet ignition yet. Still planning though. Only run about 10 hours on 550 engine, and about only 4 hours on 650. I'm happy with it. Looks like factory built too.

Have you ever took temp checks before and after to see how much difference it makes ?

Also what size are the tires you are running, the rims look like the same size as mine and I'm

looking into those tires. How do they perform on and off the road.

No I never took temperature readings. Those are standard sm wheels, 17 inch. I'm not pushing it on the road, but not riding like old man either. Never had lost traction issues. There is small vibration even after balancing. Some noise and vibration. Off road felt same as dedicated knobby in fe trim. Sand was fine too.
