to me, that crank is an aberation - not a rule. I don't think you're ever going to hear that there were loads of them fitted...

a have 2 of them, they use the same rod as '03 (32mm) , husaberg fitted them on the '04 650 models but it was a failure so they call in this crank, from '05 -'08 husaberg use the bell crank (35mm big end) it is much reliable but the new rod i think doesn't last as the old one...

2005 fs From my notes piston +,25mm head gasket compressed 1,3mm
squish, 1,05mm.

Cheers spanner

so, if my old elko piston fits perfect(squish, height, etc), what piston could i use to increase the compression? maybe '03 650cc(wossner) piston?

can't really help you with hc pistons johnyberg,i had a bit of a look into it a few years back, but i was put off by the hi comp pistons, cause they weighed so much heavier than the std pistons.i ended up going with the std wossener & decking the cases for extra compression.bit of a pain in the arse though, cause then i had raise the cam bearings in the head & machine the cam bearing bosses out in the rocker cover.
there is some hi comp v std piston weights in my galley if interested(weed)
have you got a good set of scales you can weigh both those 644cc cranks with?
if you don't want that 04 644cc crank you can certainly send it my way.
cheers ..weed..

that weird full circle 82mm stroke crank could be lightened into a nice bell crank

file.php

the 644 crank with the great big holes would be more difficult to lighten.

weed. i just looked your gallery and i saw that we use the same crank bearings (2206 and 206) without the c/b, i just bought the '03 crank and i hope not to have any problem with the roller bearings...i will use a HC piston, probably wossner and i think a '03 oem piston will be ok! have you ever try this piston?

if you port an engine and put a race cam in you'll be getting higher actual compression anyway. by 10-20%. that's what you need to test first. If you want a HC piston for the 628 i do one but 13.8 to 1 is how they actually come (that's measuered not in a pretty book). I wouldn't think she'll take much more cap'n!

mine is about 14.5 to 1. weighs 25gm more. £150

all the husaberg pistons from wossner are too low. wossner don't actually make a piston for the 2004-2008 650's or indeed a domed piston for the 450. I modify one from another engine to suit and it's 25gms heavier which is all you can hope for i think. I was lucky that the valve pockets all line up in the right place, at the right angle and to the right depth.

easy-peasy, lemon squeezy! since the invention of the wire eroder everything has become so much easier!

johnyboy ,in my gallery there is a couple of pictures of the original 01 piston i took out(which is the same as a 03 piston, same part no) it weighs 314g,that is what you will be buying.
remember to make up the same spacer on the crank to support the shoulder of the inner or you to will have to do the job twice & @ twice the expense.
..weed..

weed good idea, i already use as a spacer the inner from a roller. The piston you are saying('01-'03) had the correct squish, height?i use an elko(perfect squish) now and i'm looking for a piston to increase the compression a bit!

johnny, i don't know why weed has said that? his old piston is flat across the top and simply too low for your engine. you quote 12.4 to 1 compression but i have found it to be what it says on the tin: 13.8 to 1. I don't know how much more you think it wants/will take?

if you fit it, you need to be so careful...I've mentioned the cam, ports and valves. are you sure you know what you're doing? I've mentioned the piston.

taffy my bike has already bigger titanium valves, porting, revs limit 10,500 and a cam. i want to increase the compression because i want more sharpness and torgue... as i said elko fits perfect but a i want a flat piston with the same height as elko to increase the compression about 12.4:1

your bike doesn't rev past 8,500 of that i am certain.

look, the elko piston is taller around the edge than yours by 1mm ok? but the elko's middle is 2mm lower than it's edge. that means the middle is 1mm LOWER than yours. I do a piston that increases the compression for the elko. it is the same around the outside as the elko but the middle is just 1mm lower (and not the 2mm i mention).

so no, you don't want a flat piston.

taffy why my bike doesn't revs over 8,500???
the '03 piston is shorter than the elko? my michanic says that is the best choice to increase the comp. as i said i use the '03 crank with the ''140'' rod(135mm i think).
Sorry for the quality of the photo(14mm).

yes the 140 rod means 135 centre to centre.
your revs are reliant on the stroke of the engine. the QE2 will not rev like a moped. it's the length of the stroke. only the manufacturer can make your bike rev a little quicker. look up race tuning in the doc.

Can you show a photo of the top of your piston please?
