Advanced KTM

I spoke to a mechanic recently who referred to the 'Berg as an 'advanced KTM', a prelude to what KTM will be doing later. KTM bought Husaberg for ist technology and design, and seems to be using it now as an advanced concept platform.

A 'Berg is still a 'Berg, or a 2015 KTM XC!

If any of you where Mr KTM, you'd be thought of as daft if you didn't make all your bikes use generic parts where possible. Todays manufactoring world is a difficult one. I think its a smart move, it may just preserve 'HUSABERG' that while longer.

Plus, I think the launch of this new motor in a berg is clever also, if it goes pete-tongue, and berg goes belly up cos no-one buys the bikes, then viola! KTM arnt effected, and carry on producing the same ol design of motor. If it takes off.... its the next SX

I love berg, and its a bit of a crapper that someone can play with the brand so easily, but what can you do. If KTM wanted to phase berg out completly, the doors would be shut by now. Ex-husaberg riders doesnt neccessarily = new KTM riders.

I have had a small test on the 09 450. I then compared it with last years bike that was in good condition, but not fresh. The 09 motor seemed a lot more powerful. Others say it is smooth. I found it has a real kick that comes on if you rev it and reminds me of the 550 power band but a lot softer. The 08 450 ridden back to back did not have that same as strong final surge. I found last years more like a 450 we know the 09 would suit those that were tossing up weather a 550 would be better than a 450. The 09 did not seem to push as much in soft sand when on half throttle. The 450 felt familiar, but the 09 felt like it would work on an mx track better in the heat of some battle. If you want a race bike 09 for sure. If you want a trail bike and sometime enduro and would like to camp out at night and use the headlight for lighting etc the 08, but who want to trail ride????
 
It was a swedish engineer that came up with the idea for this engine concept.
Personally I think that that fact couldn't make the bike more "Husaberg" than anything else.

Husaberg came out top in a shoot out with 7 other european manufacturers, including BMW......and before parent company KTM (2nd place) :evil:

This idea for the engine design is so simple and yet so original. Columbus' egg.
And with a very small development budget they got the best result possible.

Fuel injection: get used to it. Bloody hell, in the car industry they had this discussion 15 years ago. Pretty much all modern cars have fuel injection.
 
Seems to me that Husaberg have been chasing the feel of a 2T with a 4T engine for a long time.Is it not what the crank mounted balancer was really all about? While the new engine is not based on the last it is the evolution of the idea.
The yamaha rep was at my shop today and I introduced him to the 2012 wr450(09 berg) after I got him to ride it he was impressed.... :D
 
that whole crank balancer cancelling crank inerta thing is incorrect physics .....I believe. that said, i don't have anything against a counter balancer as long as it doesn't come apart....
