Greetings all,

I have been in contact with a company that is considering the production of a larger aftermarket fuel tank for the 2009 model bike. This company, not Clarke, is mainly interested in what size fuel tank, but, I thought I would try and gather the info as to about how many would be interested in buying one in the first place.

I will be making another poll for the different sizes. (NOTE: I merged the two threads that I posted on the 2009 aftermarket fuel tanks to try and keep all the info in one spot. DEC)

Thanks,

Dale

RE: 2009 Aftermarket Fuel tank

A new tank is already underway here in Australia with Aqualine that make the Safari tanks. They will be targeting an extra 10L over the existing tank, which combined with the rear subframe mod (4.5L) it will give around 23-25L possible all up.

I would not have thought there would be the market for 2 tanks givent the development costs since only 3,500 bikes world wide and the total take up of tanks is likely to be less than 300

Hi
Gazza is aqualine going to make larger tank and then in addition making the subframe into a tank. having that much fuel would be overkill for where I ride
I was told that a german company are developing a kit that turns the subframe
anybody who this company is?
the fuel milage of this new bikes is not the greatest so it is going to be problem for me
when riding in the mountains opens up

later VIKING

At the moment the rear sub frame conversion will be a kit for an extra 4L

The Aqualine tank will be additional capacity that mounts and connects to the original main tank, ie shroud wings, seperate sides (bit like the seperate KTM rallye front main tanks or the Mecasystem ones, but not as low, see Aqualine Honda CRF Safari tank for the style), so it will be modular and can be adapted to whatever fuel range you need up to a combined total of 25L

so options would be

Main tank 8.5 L
Subframe mod 4 L
Left Shroud 5-8 L
Right Shroud 5-8 L

just mix and match what you want and use original tank & fuel pump set up etc.

Choose which capacity you would like.

It will take me another few rips on here before dreaming bigger I'm afraid :D

Gazza, Any time frame on this. :D Sounds very sweet!! I want some please ASAP!!!

Personally I would like to have a 3 gallon and a 4.5 gallon tank, one for the local races and rides and another for some extended voyages in the back country or long dual sport rides.

I rode the Desert MC national Hare and Hound a couple of weeks back, and while I did make it on the first 42 mile loop, I did'nt have too much fuel left over, and, I was not using more than 75% throttle as I am still putting on the break in hours.

I would be happy with a 3G tank. I wouldnt hold my breath waiting for one regardless of size.

Sounds like Gaza has it happening down under, hopefully everything will work out for him as I know he really needs it for his rally raiding.

yup, should be good, CGRT needs at least a 15 litre tanks, so the shrouds would work fine. We were using 8 litres an hrs last weekend, so 15 would take us to almost 2 before we'd have to fuel, the only question I have about your tanks is the refill time. With the BOSS tank, we could do a rider change and fuel stop in 15 seconds, hopefully the fill tubes on the side tanks can take fuel quick.

Aqualine system sounds Ok for a rally rider, or a dual sport rider, but I wouldn't even think of this system for dirt/trail riding. I really need a tank with about a 100 mile range, so at 30mpg, 3.2 gallon would be my ideal tank. Turning the subframe into a tank seems to be the best option.

100 mile range, 3.2 gallon would be my preference. If the sub frame adds a gallon, then converting it to fuel is the best solution (provided it won't leak). I can't really see a specific aftermarket tank being made, I think the market is just too small (number of bikes). Although most of us will need more fuel as the fuel economy is ABYSMAL. Which puts us between the proverbial "rock and a hard spot". Which is why I would be MOST interested in a sub frame conversion kit.

Well, that's why were trying to get a feel for which tank would be most likely to sell so that hopefully this company will make the tank. This company is also a world wide company so they would have access to the full production run so to speak, and not just the 500 sent to North America.

The sub frame conversion sounds okay for trail riding etc but won't do much good for desert racing as the fill rates will be too slow. I don't know much about how rally raid fuel stops are conducted, but, am assuming from Gazza's comments that this system would work for them.

On the KTM talk poll they are up to 20 tanks total. We have what 9? Looks like most folks are interested in the 3.5 gallon tank at KTM talk.

So the total now is 29 tanks between the two sites, with the majority in the 3-3.5 gallon range.

Current results from the KTM talk poll.

Pretty interesting that there is more interest at the KTM site than there is here.

I would like a 3.0 gallon tank [ 9 ] [36.00%]
I would like a 3.5 gallon tank [ 13 ] [52.00%]
I would like a 4.0 gallon tank [ 2 ] [8.00%]
I would like a 4.5 gallon tank [ 0 ] [0.00%]
I would like a 5.0 gallon tank [ 0 ] [0.00%]
I would like a 5.5 gallon tank [ 1 ] [4.00%]

Wioth the sub frame mod you can get 3.25 gallons with no extra tank.

The fill rate can be dealt with by a larger diameter connecting hose
