debate this?

stood next to the fire on the last night of MOab i'm talking with Boss and his business partner from oregon as well as the last remnants of the great weekend.

we talked of the holes in the husaberg range but also the USPs - the unique selling points!

the hole was the lack of a 250 or a 350 entry model. the 380 came up and of course the loss of the 400 which would still be selling well now if they made it.

but we also agreed that the 650 was the USP

now next year there aren't going to be any roadbikes and there are going to be no 650s.

do you think they should continue to produce the 650 in SM/roadbike form?

why is it semi-dropped this year?

will they be regretting yet another phuq up this time next year?

i think yet again that husaberg have cut the best branches from their tree. if i didn't know better i'd say that the guy at the top is secretly trying to ruin husaberg because everytime they seem to have a good product or a niche - they get rid of it!

regards

Taffy

We talked to David Larsson at Husaberg last weekend about this (see http://www.husaberg.org/index.php?name= ... pic&t=7692) and although I'm not sure if he talked explicitely about dropping the 650 or supermoto in general (both subjects were discussed back and forth), he made a few statements like:
- Supermoto sales is dropping from 50/50 in 04/05 down to 25/75 compared to enduro.
- Bike production is now down to 1500 bikes per yer (compared to ~4000 in 04/05)
- Making the bikes barely legal requires lots of efforts.

I assume that the efforts in making them legal in combination with the low volume makes it a bad business case. On the other hand, it makes you wonder if the 450 and 570 will be street legal or not. I assume making the 570 street legal is not that easier than trying to make a 650 street legal. Unfortunately, I didn't think about asking him about this, neither did I ask about the rumors of a Husaberg chassi with the KTM 690 engine.

Even with the shaky world economy, I predict record sales for Husaberg in 2009... that's the bottom line.

jeez

talk about off subject! not even one reply!

record sales? no chnace, they used to do 3k a year not so long ago!

Theres a thread on this already here

Re the low '08 production of only 1500 bikes, I have been told by the Australian importer it was a deliberate decision by KTM so as to have competely clean floorspace (ie no left overs or need for discounts to move stock) at the Husaberg shops by Q4 2008 for the release and stocking of the slant motor '09 bikes.

It is HIGHLY expected that this model WILL break Husaberg sales records.

Get used to seeing lots of them !

All dealer reports seem to suggest an overwhelming response to the new model.

many have good numbers of advance orders.

Azza.
