Ive searched through the various forum threads regarding 501 conrods but there is no definitive answer to the question;

"Is there an after market alternative to the factory Husaberg 501 con rod?"

I'm struggling with price of the genuine part, especially when you add the cost of a set of bearings, piston and some head work and you have a situation where the parts cost alone are greater than the bike and it's only a freshen up.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

if it is a 125 centre to centre rod I can source one for you.

you could also consider just a new little end bush, new pin and bearing. I do a P & B for 112.50gbp and a little end bush for 25.53. not sure how much for the rod kit which would be P & B, rod c/w LE bush as you'd expect but I think 275gbp is ab0out right. they aren't OEM, they've been manufactured.

if you have 117mm centres I can't help you.

Thanks for that.
I'm in the process of splitting the cases so I should know what rod is in it soon.
In all the bergs I've had, as soon as the big end wears just a little it's not long before its a full on catastrophe.
The rod in this engine has a good 1 mm play, yet it didn't let go getting to be worn that bad.

Following some communication with one of the sellers it appears that what they are selling is a "service" not so much a part/kit.

It appears that what they offer is to receive your old con rod, boring the small end to take a roller bearing rather than a bush that utilizes the internal diameter as per factory specifications so that you can use a standard Husaberg or aftermarket specification piston.

They then bore the large end and shrink in a 65 - 66 HRC hardened ring. The ring is then bored/honed to below 1µ to accept an off the shelf silver caged roller and strengthened big end pin.

What was not offered was information as to what they do to inspect the con rod to ensure its not fatigued.

I misread the translation and what they are doing is taking another con rod that is close to the Husaberg item and modifying it to bring it to Husaberg specifications.

you were right first time

they repair yours. there's no real risk if this is timely work. if the rod was toast well that's where the fun begins!
