1998 fe600s pop thru carb

Good Scott

For sealing the exhaust you can also use that silicone that I've told you earlier.

Don't know if the wiring is stock, but if I remenber the only yellow wires wore the ones from the stator and some in the reg and rect circuit. The one that kills the ignition is the orange one.

When it pops on decel, its at high, medium or low revs ?
What was the PJ that you had when your pipes wore going red at idlle ?

Zaga,

I put in a new 35 pilot jet, the pop is probably mid range but the pipes are not red. I put in a new 35 because I compared teh old 35 to the new and the old one was clogged. The pop I have is just when I rev it from idle while in neutral but the bike does not seam to be hot. I may go back to the 40 but I want to take it out today and test i out a little just to see how the power is and how it feels sense I also just replaced the clutch cable. I will also get some red rtv and seal the exhaust to see if it helps, the pop may just be an exaust leak bringing in to much cold air.

Thanks for the advice again.

Scott

If that doesn't work (I don't think it will) and your poping is at midle range folow RDP501 advice and try to change the needle.
Keep us posted.

I will raise the needle tonight, it still pops but runs good. It still seams to be a little hard starting but that could be the cold or I just need to figure out the exact technic. Like always thanks for the all the advise from everybody it really does help.

well I raised the needle and it still backfires, I decided to start looking at he exhaust a little more. First the exhaust is a Big Gun and is full of leaks. The silencer leaks out the front, where it screws together and I think all the other pipes need to be disassembled and sealed. What is your advise on sealing it up and also should I jet up more for the aftermarked exaust. Zaga said to use red sealant to seal up the exhaust which should work but I do have a tig machine I could use to seal the silencer up completly. Is this a good idea or not?

Hi Scott

I told you to use also in the exhaust the wurt super rtv red, not to seal any holes that it might have, but only were the parts of the exhaust come together.

TIG, does your exhaust have hole ?

What kind of leaks do you have ? Do you have any pics ?

ZAGA

Dont weld up the big hole on the back end or it wont run right... :p
If you tig weld it all together you will never be able to get it apart to repack it if needed, it might be cool to be loud for a while but would absolutly get old after a while if the packing came out and you couldnt repack it,
i would recomend just sealling all the connections on it with the silicone method, auto parts stores also have some stuff specially for sealing exhaust pipes that expands when it gets hot which works ok but gets hard and cracks out over time if its not a real tight fit, silicone would be a sure deal, i used black rtv on my end caps, one end is bolted and the other rivited and has worked great, mine leaks a little from each of the middle connection and it doesnt cause any popping, i also had a different muffler on it for a time that had a few small leaks from the caps and the two middle connections leaked worse with that midpipe and never got any popping more than with the good muffler......

Thanks guys for the advice, I feel a little stupid right now because I did not clarify what I thought I would weld. The big gun houseing was pretty beat up so orignally thought I could weld the front section of the muffler to the housing. Then I would leave the back section open to allow me to repack it. I thought this would be a good Idea but after further examination I realized the housing is aluminum and pipe is stainless steel (feel stupid). So I did remove the exhaust yesturday and got it disassembled and found out it has no packing in it. I figured this could be contributing to my back fire. I then got some of my body tools and hammered out the housing to straitend it up so it should work now. I hope you don't thing I am too big of an idiot, I should have studdied the exhaust better before spoke earlier.

You are the biggest idiot i have ever known!!! take it easy, its all good! Im just glad someone finally asked a question about a bike i have first hand experience with.i have experimented with a few different mufflers and noticed i had one with poor packing and i cackled and backfired a bit more than one with good packing, that could be the problem if there is none left and make it sound like there is a jetting issue when there isnt...

i'm so glad somebody went thru that door he left wide open
it was really tempting

The door was wide open and I expected a little abuse. I build alot of hot rods, and my fellow hot rodders would have ripped me a new one for my earlier remarks. I havn't been around dirt bikes for a few years and never had any 4-strokes until now so I am just trying to get myself up to speed on these bikes. Thanks for the advice and any time you see me doing somthing dumb please do get on my case, that way I can learn from my mistakes.
