Lots of riders swear by the FCR, but I always had good luck with the PHM40 on early bergs. I have run both the Dial-a-jet modification and a PHM 40 that was built by Dale L. Once the jetting is dialed-in the Delorto works just fine IMHO.

As far as the G2 Throttle Cam System: I talked to Sam at G2 this morning and he told me that A-1 is their distributor in Australia. He said that if you can't get satisfaction from them to order it direct from G2 on the web. He ships worldwide. The proper kit(part number) for the early bergs with the Domino single pull throttle is the G2 2200. It includes 3 cams and the throttle tube for 99 USD plus shipping. If you change to the FCR you will need the double pull setup like on the new bergs.

Don't think that the G2 setup is a substitute for proper jetting or gearing. It just gives better throttle control in particular situations but does not eliminate stumble or lag due to poor jetting.

hi!
do you know the type of the cam you are on?? there are 3 different types : A, B and C .
A is the one that propably you have on and causes this low and midrange explosion , if it is possible fit a B or C cam , mess a bit with the jetting and you really be surprised of how the beast will calm at the low rpms !!
i know because i ' ve done it!!
power delivery becomes more alike of that of a 450 with very mild low and midrange rpms and
with a big bang explosion at higher rpms.

the problem is that a B or a C cam are very hard to find.

what exhaust system you have on??

I don't have the G2 system yet - I assume that is the Cams you are mentioning. Jetting is something I am going to look at for sure. I think exhaust is standard but not 100% certain. Thanks for your input :)

Thanks Dez. I appreciate your fine research :) It is good to have that option of going direct if needed but local dealers seem to have tapped into the supply chain :) I am in 2 minds about changing carb as it is just another expense on an older bike. The Cam is a worthwhile investment but as you mentioned I really need to look at jetting. If I change carbies in the future then would the G2 just require a new cable/throttle tube ?

As to Jetting this will be a whole new experience for me so any pointers appreciated :)

I spent an afternoon on a buddies FE600 because I was interested in buying and he was interested in selling. Anyway, I ended up buying another 501. He made the mistake of taking me to a riding area with tight, gravel covered trails. The strong low end was a bit too much. A throttle cam would help, but if you have spent a lot of time on something like a Husky 610 (which I have) you immediately recognize a lack of flywheel/crank weight on the Berg compared to the Husky.

I have a PHM 40 mm carb on my 501 along with 13X48 sprockets. Granted that is very short gearing but with me I can always upshift. If there is traction problems a upshift usually cures the problem. In other words where I had just one gear now I have 2-3. This might give you some ideas. Hope this helps.

Thanks Bill I think I am running 14/45. It originally was 15 on the front. I was told not to go to 13 as it would wear too quickly on 600 - what do you think ? Most of the time II have a lot of throttle not being used in tight stuff so want more choices more rather than having higher top speeds. Hope my logic makes sense and actually improves my low down traction ?? :)

I am also curious about what Oyk said about different cams - so how can you tell what cam your bike has - A, B or C? Except for the obvious reasons of providing different performance curves why would they make 3 different ones ?

If you can`t go to a 13 then maybe go with a larger rear sprocket. Can get the same result by doing that. Might want to try short shifting more to avoid the wheel spin. A 600 has a lot of power so it might help some to try the above. The cams I think they are marked somewhere but I don`t know for sure. Somebody else here should know.
Hope this helps and take care.
