I was jetting my 450ktm & thought that I would check how the berg was jetted & It has a 160 main ,obekr needle on the 3rd clip from the btm . The bike seems to run great but seems like a small jet . I am talking about my 650 here .I am @ 1k asl .

drgnrydr,

Take a look under carburation in the Doc and it will all be explained.
The size of engine doesn't have much bearing on the jetting spec.

Sparks.

RE: Re: 07 650 jetting

so you checked what you have in your berg and the 160 and EKR are what you found right?

That is correct & the plug is a bit lean to me

RE: Re: RE: Re: 07 650 jetting

i run a 145 and sparks runs a 150 or is it a 145 - not usure, infact i think it is a 145! anyway, the plug should always be white. we all run unleaded nowadays and you can't get a plug colour anymore. not like the old days.

if you want a colour? thrash it for a good while and then remove the tailpipe and look at the section where it connects to the front. the middle. even then it should be an off white. you just don't want an ivory white!

the other thing is to get yourself a magnifying glass and look at your plug for specs and stuff. bet you don't find any....

the will pop on acelleration in neutral

it will pop on acceleration in neutral? so that's on the stand in the garage? are you going to ride the bike all the time on the stand and in the garage are are you going to take it out now and again like the rest of us!!!!!

it doesn't mean anything. if it helps - it could be the plug is old and tired. or is the basic plug when most go to iridium or palladium.

thanks taffy . Reason this all started was I had bought a jd jet kit for the ktm & I ended up sending the carb to dhj . So he said he did not need the jd kit . Looking @ the kit ,the needle that they say not to use @ my altitude looks exactly like te one in the berg .Also the jets start @ 170 . I was also wondering about the o-ring on the pump also .

what?

DHJ?

looking at the kit? whos - JDs???

i really am done with this 170MJ if that's what they recommend? run it. i'll go myway....

sorry taffy JD jetting is pretty popular on ktm talk & djh is the same kind deal . I am going to put the 170 main & the other needle just to see whats up . The o-rings supplied in the kit will do two different pressures & I will try the smallest o-ring first . Not a big deal to change around if it dont work right . I think the pop on acelleration in neutral means something isnt right.

i give up

this is a quote i designed for you about three years ago and put in the doc, you see, i knew you were coming!

so:

Paddock stand jetting
There are a few that have tested their jetting and snap on the paddock stand. These sheytheads have tested the bikes for "snap" and when the bike has bogged; have declared the jetting to be wrong. We trust you all know better!

Taffy

I can appreciate what you are saying . Im sure you have the knowledge to back up what you say . Things just dont jive with what people are saying . I will experiment on my own

Anyone tried the o-ring thing on the pump ? Know for a fact it made a huge difference in the way my carb hit is on my ktm . It increases the pump pressure like 20 % with the small oring & like 60 % with the large one .

ktmtalk.com is waaay more clued in about this carb . Read djh carb setup 101 & jd responce as well . Also the accelerator pump o-ring mod . Lots more informative than anything here .

you haven't done anything to anything yet so what the phuq do you know?

call me wrong when you've done it. the pump mod is named after me and i even gave james dean his nik and therefore business name. i've been their and i'll back what i know against anything they say - anytime!

so far you've been talking bollocks so be our guest and go to the bullring...

The JD triple-taper needles effect the last 25% of thottle opening and therefore require a MJ approx. 2 sizes larger than you'd run with a double-taper Keihin needle.

I would stay away from both kits. You'll find it much easier to tune when using Keihin needles as opposed to "mystery" colored needles.

why does popping bother you? my 450 always pops really badly after standing around for a while between rides.
the fuel attracts moisture and thay would make it run bad.
What are you looking for? I was running a 150MJ 35PJ and no pump squirt and would hang on the bike every twist of the throttle.
it would pop once or twice when slowing down quickly, but all 4t's do this.

well I just wanted to play with the bike some & I am the first to admit im wrong but I just came in from putting in the red needle in clip in the middle & installed a 170 mj & I swear the bike has never started easier I used to start the bike 3 or 4 times before it would stay running when cold . Anyway I also I installed the small o-ring on the accellerator pump . I am going to ride it in a few & I will post what happens .

just came from a quick rip down the road & noticed the bike has lots more smoother power in 1,2,3 it wheelis like it never had, much smoother & you use to tug it a little in 3rd . But in 4,5,6 it seems sluggish maybee drop a clip position ? It is currently in the middle

oh yeah the small o-ring made a noticeable difference ,kinda like turbo lag feel when you gas it . It seemed to shorten the lag
