Hi, am new member cos thinking of buying 2005 MY FE450 or 501 - apologies as guess this question has been posted loads of times, but am new to Bergs (but have wanted one for ages).....

Am experienced rider, and looking for bit of advice on which is the best ride for UK conditions, i.e. woods to open going, with MX tracks thrown in (but NO desert or altitude!!). Not really looking to race (except odd hare n hounds), just for fun at local MX tracks and trail riding mainly. Like bikes that fall over better as always got on better with 2 rather than 4-strokes, so 450 is prefered, but 501 is in better condition and availible NOW

Ta,

Jase.

I take it the 501 is an 03 or earlier. If that is the case, you will want the 450, solely for the updated carb and ignition.

The 501 is 2005!!!! Offically it is a 2004 model, although the last of the 501's were sold as 2005MY bikes in the UK - not sure if they fitted the better carb and ignition on, will check!

What is a MY bike? IS that a yellow and black Force Edition?

wow good to see someone from the orange side looking to get a berg most of me so called mates are going to the orange brand :? ive got a 04 501 before that a 470 the 04 is the last of the 501,s got the better ignition and carb. engine wise the motor has the moto x cam in which makes the bike light up power wise quicker than the other,s in the enduro range .makes you smile though :D ive done a few hare n hounds and enduros you just have to understnand they wont turn like a katie but then they do feel well planted . as for 450 or 501 both great bikes lets hope the force guides to the right bus

Ah Steve, think the picture is becoming a bit clearer. Having checked all Berg bikes ever made, there were no "official" 501's from MY 2004....so I was worried that this last of the 501's was just the left overs of the 03 models.....but have emailed the guy to see if it has the new (from 2004) Kleihn carb and proper electrics, which it should have been up dated with??? Obviously if it hasn't been, then I won't go that route. Will phone up about the 450 as is same cash as 501, and think it may be an 05 MY bike too. Just sold my GPR steering damper, so more stable Berg should hopefully get away without one?

Oh yes...MY, Model Year!!!

Having had KTM's for years now, you can obviously get the first MY2006 bikes in July 2005 here in the UK....suspect you can in most places. Think the new Model Year Jap bikes come along just in time for the correct year!

It seems that the U.K. was the only place a 2004 501 Berg could be had. Someone had posted awhile back that these were special ordered by your importer and had the new carb and ignition. These would be very rare Bergs. Please post some pics before you ride it :)

It would be nice if someday we had a section for model year identification and photos of all the bikes Husaberg ever made. We would definitely need some pics of this rare Berg.

Your 2005 300exc was the the last MY
300 EXC available in the U.S..Maybe
the best EXC ever made. You might want to
hang on to it if you can.I still liked my Berg
better with a damper, but on my KTM it is
mandatory.My Berg 470 and my KTM 300
were real close powerwise, you will probably
like the 501 over the 450.

I owm an 03 fe501,,04fe550,,05fe450....550 great 4 flat out fun (hill climbs, sand dunes) 450 best in the woods,,feels much lighter, but isn't. 501 has FCR carb from 05 CRF 450. Does it all good!..Joe

Are you guys saying that you guys get Austrian made 380 and 501 models? Or is your import manufacturing "one offs" as needed?

gruntenberg

the 501 is the only model i believe that gets the '55' cam. same cam as the '53' but 5d different cam timing.

taffy so the 55 cam is the same as the 53 just different timing what would the thing go like with the cam timing 5d the same timing as the 53 cam,so this 04 501 is half way to full motox timing ? as it go,s like stink now ie bk mod very little acc pump eln needle :D

it's the same cam but with the drill holes in the end for the camwheel moved around 5 degrees at the crank which is only 2.5 degrees on the cam.

it's done because the cylinder is taller on a 501 i believe, and the cam would be in a different position.

Must admit I'm a little nervous about what might exactly be fitted to this 501, just from the manufactures point of view, not the seller.....it has only done 9 hours! May wait for a suitable 450 to come up for sale.

As for 300EXC, I sold mine awhile ago, but still availible in UK as 06 model I think. Down side is user friendliness on road as I intend to ride Berg to and from work occasionally, and to and from a practice area.

Jase, the 'berg will be much more user friendly on the road. i sold my 501 and bought a 2005 300EXC. it is a pain in the A$$ on the road unless you cruise at a lower speed. i cruise at 80-90kmh on the 300 where i used to cruise at 100-110 on the berg.

501 top speed was about 165kmh

300 top speed 145kmh (no 6th gear)

also the 'berg was better for high speed wheelies!!!!

i do miss that bike. one day i'll get another one.

Have Fun
Jeff

Spaced up any stroker cyclinders lately Taffy?
It does not change cam location or timing.
Advancing a sohc motor's cam decreases the
intakes lobe center and increases the exhausts
lobecenter which makes the engine rev up a little
quicker with more lowend but it will sign off a
little sooner. We used to run big cc fours at four
degrees advance. Some single cams have the exact
same lifts and durations but with built in different
lobe centers.110-110 and 108-108 used to be very
popular. With dohc motors you can get even more
creative.I'll bet the Lineweaver cams will have
better overall performance than the OEM cams.
